Hello. I was just wondering if anyone here has the qualification?

Sadly, no. I got past the first review (second try) but I haven't gotten the qualification. No response from them, just know there are HITs there that I'm not seeing as qualified

Yes, I have it, but I haven't seen any new hits open up for it yet.

There are actually 4 sets up right now, and there have been anywhere from 3-5 sets consistently for the last week. I just search "crowdsource" and sort by "Reward Amount: most first" to find them.

It seems odd that you can't see the HITs. There was a delay between the time they passed my test and the time they granted the qual, so maybe you don't officially have the qual yet? Or you may just need to log out and log back into MTurk's site.

I just really thought about this. :) I think you're confusing this test with another, blackpup. There weren't 20 questions, just a writing sample to submit.

    Thanks!

Well, sh*t. I don't have the qual. I did the writing test a couple of weeks ago that paid $2.00 and then a bonus of $8 and in the feedback they said I was qualified. maybe that was a different tier writing qual? I'm so confused.

    Oh, no. That is confusing.

They emailed me to say basically that I passed the test and got the bonus, but that they were going to review in a little while to see who exactly got the qual. And so sometime later I got a separate email that I was given the qual itself.

I took the $0 + $10-if-you-pass one that was before the $2 + $8-if-you- pass. But I really thought that the $2 version was the same, just a different pricing structure.

Maybe look at your feedback again to be sure they actually said they were giving you the qual, not just that you would now be in the running for the qual? It sounded, from what they told me, like they gave bonuses to some people who still might not get the qual itself.

I have top tier writing privileges. Took about 10 days to get started. I see 4 different writing venues. 2 of them have been taken away from me. They are very picky. They have found at least 1 mistake in everything I have written. A couple I don't agree with. I apparently don't have anyway to dispute these errors. I wish they would give better feedback or better instructions or a better way to communicate with them. They have paid for all of them. Good money if you can pass copy. Stressful though. They have made me almost afraid to write for them. I always thought I was a decent writer but now I'm not so sure. If you get it, learn the copy style they want. And watch out for hyphens!

I looked back and that's what they sent me! No follow up email so I guess I didn't make the cut. Thanks for your help!

At $10 for 275 words, they can be picky with me. Give me the qual! ;)

I only have had them say one thing that I felt was out of line. But I guess what strikes me when I read your comment, bky, is that I hope they're being constructive with you, because if they're not, that's just mean of them. For example, sounds like they've made you insecure about your writing. Although that's a common problem with editors at many places, I certainly hope that isn't their goal. I'm sorry it's happening.

Crowdsource's Top Tier qual offers very desirable pay for MTurk. In fact, I'd say that at the moment, it has the highest pay potential of any non-scam work that I see anywhere on the site, and that's even comparing it to MTurk transcription. (Yep, I said it---though I say more in my profile about why I still won't stop transcribing.)

Even so, the CS work still is not paid at actual professional-writer levels. For example, here's Textbroker's page on pricing for writing, including what pro writing pays there. And Textbroker is a mill, so I would expect that that still is in the low range for pro writing.

So if CS were continually mean about my work, I would still take it with a grain of salt. If they want pro writing, they should pay pro wages. And if they don't want to do that, yet they chose to restrict their search pool to Turkers (most of whom are probably not pros), then it's not really Turkers' fault---and CS has no right to make them think it's their fault, either. That would be bullying. But it's not bullying of them if they are truly meaning to give you feedback that helps you be a better writer.

I'm not saying I know which it is. I'm just saying that a couple of different things could be going on. Not everyone knows how to give feedback well. But also, it's definitely hard to take writing feedback, and I would think that many Turkers who got this qual are just experiencing that now.

Still, if the CS experience at least makes you better at withstanding feedback or rejection, know that you can probably use those skills to keep going with your writing work. And you can do that at rates even more profitable than CS' Top Tier ones.

Good luck to all of us!

ETA: Crowdsource has their own site where they recruit writers (for MTurk work) and provide writing resources. If anyone who is writing for them (or wants to write for them) hasn't seen it, since it's their own material, it's probably worth going through. It's here. (Didn't they do a great job at buying a prime domain name?)

I'm not saying they are mean just picky. If you miss a comma or hyphen or they don't like the sentence structure or misspell a word (I still think I spelled it right) you get a comment. Apparently if you get a comment on 3 different articles you get removed from being able to write on that kind of article. I understand the mistakes and have worked to correct them. I didn't go to college to be a writer, but I do a lot of writing for work. I just enjoy trying to write informative articles and thought this would be a good way to earn a little extra cash. Oversensitive? Maybe. It's just stressful for me as I wanted to get it right.

All I'm saying is if you want to write for CS go to their web site and learn the style guide they have listed. CS wants perfection. You would be amazed at the mistakes you cal make in 275 words.

    Good to know.

I think it's hard to be a good or great writer without a need to get things right, whether it's a concern about grammar or about whether the words flow beautifully, or anything else. So I never thought of you as oversensitive.

I'm guessing they really like your tendency to write short sentences, btw. I have to deliberately shorten all of mine when I do these HITs. Not my natural style!

You bring up an interesting last point. Do their editors want perfection, really? Because if there was nothing for them to criticize, would they make something up because they're supposed to find something? ;) I have no idea how their editors are compensated or trained. There was an active one on these forums, but he apparently got another job several months ago, in the off-Turk world. Seems like having one around to comment on these issues would be helpful!
