Yesterday, I transfered my amount to gift card and ordered a toy. Can anyone tell me how much would be the total cost of shipping a toy from amazon, to India? I read that they charge $4.99 for shipping plus $4.99 per item. But my sister had to pay $10 more as shipping taxes and that amounted to $20 just for shipping! I just ordered a toy, answer from an Indian turker who has bought something from amazon would be appreciated

You should call or chat online with Amazon. Toys can range in weight, and I'd imagine that weight is an important part of an international shipping quote. No one would be able to guess it.

I just sent a gift to Canada and it was $3.99 per item for shipping plus there was a $7.49 import fees deposit on top of the total.

You can place your order and go through all of the steps and right before you pay for your order, the page that gives you the total amount, you can cancel it if you don't like the total. (that's usually what I do anyway), or you can just call Amazon as someone already suggested and talk to someone who can give you the break down of the charges and your total cost to ship to India.

The custom duty on toys is 29% in India, so you may get charged 29% of the invoice value + shipping, have you ordered it as gift, and what shipping method have you used ?

Thanks for the info sunny. I had no idea about the import duty. I used the standard shipping method. Buying and importing a toy from amazon sure is costly.

Don't know what courier service they will use in standard shipping but if they will use USPS, normal airmail, post, etc then it may get stuck in customs, but if they will use fedex, DHL, then the courier company will do a smooth custom clearance. Try to import items with lower custom duties :) , and use third party courier services, it won't be much costly then :) .
