Yep, I'm sure I've pissed them off now. I just asked to return a video HIT that was an hour long religious video. Sorry, but this is one atheist that doesn't mix work with crap. I'm sure this is going to go over like a lead balloon.
You did the right thing for you. It would sort of be like trying to do a video in Chinese and you don't speak the language...BTW, didn't that happen to you?
Considering how little they pay you for your time, clogan, I think they can't afford to lose you. They still just assign you the videos too, right, and don't let you pick and choose? If that's the case, I don't see how they can complain, because that isn't true with any other Turk transcription. It's just going to happen that sometimes a certain video is objectionable for a particular person. Keep us posted!
Haha! Yes! Several times!! Actually they did have no issue with it it seems. They assigned me a new one without complaint. And yes, what they pay. It's getting worse. $20 for an hour long video constantly interjected between play snippets, interviews, british accents, shakespearean speech. These are the worst I've done. It's taking me 20 hours to do an hour long video. Figuring out the $20 pay for it, it SUCKS!
Congrats that they had no problems with it, but considering how much you're ending up making, maybe you would have been better off if they had booted you. You know what I mean? I knew video transcription on MTurk didn't pay well, and that's why I don't pay much attention to it. But this is even worse than I knew it could be. Good luck, though. Are they paying you any faster lately?
I finally told them I was suited to video transcription...I am new at it, so figured if it took me four days to do a 7 minute video, I probably wasn't going to get fast enough to make a difference...PLUS you have to timestamp and all that nonsense...I admire your dedication to them, but...
Honestly, it's all a mind thing. Seeing the higher payout compared to $1.50 is why I do it. Even though it takes longer. HOWEVER that's when I was getting between 3-5 an hour. With $1 an hour, yeah, I'm going to probably stop doing them soon.
