I don't know about interviews, but they certainly don't rate media transcription, or at least not in my case.

Really? I have never had any interviews rated. I have had insurance and craft transcripts graded only.

Ooh, thanks for mentioning the political ones; I hadn't noticed them, and the audio quality is AMAZING!

I'm assuming when they said they paid $2/hour, they meant $2 for every hour of work, not hour of audio...and $18-24 per audio hour is still pretty damn low. Still, it depends on the audio, and also on how fast you are. I've made as much as $13/per hour of work, which isn't bad for general transcription.

I guess all of you are jumping on those super clear political videos and only the bad ones are left. But that's no issue because Speechink has much more work available.

The pay might be much better elsewhere, but it's a great learning experience for people like me who are new to transcription and both the pay and the audio quality is way better than the other big transcription company on mturk, Castingwords.

I don't get what the big deal is about CastingWords. Searching for them right now, with "for which you are qualified" unchecked, SpeechInk has NEARLY 2,000 HITs available paying up to $29.61. Meanwhile CastingWords has only 20 HITs available, none transcription ones -- they're all for reviewing/approving or timestamping transcripts, and the most they pay is $1.36. Yet practically every time I see SpeechInk come up, there are people saying "Don't bother; work for CastingWords instead." Am I missing something? Because SpeechInk seems far superior in terms of the amount of work regularly available as well as pay.

Totally agreed that working for them is a great learning experience. Actually, I've been working as a legal transcriptionist for two years and only started doing SpeechInk HITs within the last few months, and even with my level of past experience, it's helped, and in ways that carry over to my other work.
