The "rep" buttons have turned into a popularity and defamation contest lately. People are hiding behind nasty comments and name-calling, resulting in juvenile antics and begging for positive rep to counteract.

The only solution to this popularity contest is to get rid of the rep altogether.

This would save a lot of anguish among others and help maintain a positive board.

NOTE: This is to gather opinions, and is not a poll, NOT a vote. Consider it a petition.

I'm going to remove option three for now. That would make all prior reps visible and could cause a ton of issues. If you selected option three, please vote again. I edited the poll to add that option, but saw that it was a bad idea.

what was option three? Remove anonymity?

...if so I would have voted 3 just for the record.

But maybe if people picked that option rep could be completely reset? So all previous rep was removed and started fresh? Just an idea. :3

If you want it removed, why don't you just ignore it? It means nothing anyways, and it means even less if you don't look at it.

To be honest... I would vote for removing the anonymous portion of the rep system. I enjoy leaving people notes from time to time. I realize Andy said that would require deleting all previous rep, and I am perfectly ok with that.

Yes and thats also what i voted for. You can only see the last 10 or so reps anyway, and who cares? Why are we worried about protecting douchebags again?

I don't see the need of a reset honestly, just remove the anonymity from here on out.

I voted "No", which, confusingly based on the way the question was worded, means I want to keep the rep system.

I voted yes, because I just think the whole thing's silly. A lot of people think they're giving Rep when they click Thanks. It would be a lot easier to get rid of the Thanks and add a "Thumbs down" button counter to the "thumbs up" to replace it. Most of the time I click the Thanks, I am using it as a "thumbs up" anyway. YouTube has it spot on with that system.

It is a flawed system, completely top to bottom, don't agree then just let me know and I will neg rep you for no reason other then that to show you :)

No, it's the best system in the world, you are wrong. ALL BOW TO THE NONPAREIL PRISTINE BEAUTY THAT IS THE REPUTATION SYSTEM OF A FORUM ABOUT SCRAPING NICKELS OFF THE PART OF THE COAT-TAILS OF AMAZON THAT WAS DIPPED IN THE TOILET WHEN IT WAS IN A RUSH TO USE THE BATHROOM.

Just to clarify so I am clear. The intention of the rep system I believe was to give credit to those who gave solid leads to good hits. Like most things it "kind of" worked. there are those with very high rep who typically give very solid links and are insanely helpful. There are a few that slip through the cracks because they simply link and don't join in discussion so they never get the flood of popularity points that come from a funny GIF or witty remark. Then there are those that hardly ever link anything but again collect popularity positive rep points.

So if the end result isnt really showing what was intended correctly and the majority of people simply ignore it anyway then why keep it. TOTM is useful, it does what is intended with no misunderstanding or at least it has far. nothing to stop popularity votes from skewing the results any different then rep but at least it is purely positive not negative. I mean really what does negative rep do for anyone. If someone is a douche then ignore/block them, if they are a real **** they get banned. Short of that you are not going to NOT click a link from someone with a full red bar unless the reason for their negative rep is fake links which then everyone would be aware and stop clicking lol.

Anyway I have been having fun with my rep. It is purely from popularity, I think I have given up 2 links since it came about. It is funny to watch it go up in down with every situation. If say Razor acts like a **** and I rip on him I get 4-5 positives and 1-2 negatives. It is a given. It is simply he and a friend of him neg rep me and 4-5 people who don't like him will positive rep me lol. It doesnt even matter what I say. If i talk about negative rep i get negative rep for simply talking about it lol. But if i finger someone for it like this morning with Turka I get positive rep lol . I have not ripped on someone who doesn't deserve it like say Nikki as something like this would just bring hate and really a pointless en devour lol.

Anyway, good attempt at a system that has been abused by those who don't care. For those with long green bars are all happy, those with out are miserable, those in the middle are really just the norm. Thats my take, take it, leave it, rep me for it either way its all the same it doesnt matter. If my rep dips ill simply post some cat GIF, if it gets to high ill tell someone off =P
