I'll say it again, when I started a couple weeks ago I looked at both sites and decided i'd leave the drama, bullying, self-righteous hierarchical bullshit to TN. I wonder if they know how stupid they look from a guest's point of view... unless they have a golden key to guaranteed better paid work, I'd imagine the senior members use the forum as a way of expanding their own pockets with the tips given from members who are hoping to one day be approved to the inner circle.

Aahhhhhhh... nothing like another TN thread to drive the traffic. :D

On TN, you have the inner circle and you have everyone else.

The members of "everyone else" are busy posting chirpy, repetitive, fawning messages in their token allotment of public sub-forums... hoping to be approved for access to the hidden threads where you learn how to make $20 or more an hour for sporadic, infrequent bursts of 5 to 10 minutes.

The management are all about representing themselves as the gatekeepers of Turkdom - the deciders of who is worthy of being allowed access to good requesters and who is not worthy.

Frankly, it wouldn’t surprise me if defending the honor of TN on this board isn’t one of the ways for acolytes to curry favor and gain increased access over there. We have certainly seen our fair share of sycophants lately. ;)

If I had my druthers, I would rather have Amazon administer a simple forum where anyone with a valid worker ID could interact with any requester. Someone who Turks for a living should not be in the position of deciding who can interact with a requester and who can not.

Until such an impartial forum exists, I’ll happily make my home on this one.

That's pretty much the way I used TN back when I had access. Your whole post pretty much sums up my feelings.

So now they don't even pretend to be friendly in the members areas? Back when I had access I remember them being a bit friendlier and less stand-offish in those private areas. I suppose that was mostly just because of how cliquey they were and not so much real friendship.

I was exaggerating, but it is a huge mod-team. Typically with forums - one way to get people to stick around is to make them see that they could potentially become a mod in the future. The law of expectations.

This might get me banned from TN, but my only real gripe with them is that I can't even ask simple "how to" questions or ask for "tips" on completing a hit.

And when I do ask a question like that, it gets moved to another sub forum where full-members can answer my newbie question - yet I'm not allowed to view it. That just strikes me as odd, since full members aren't exactly "newbies" who would benefit from the question and they're answering a post that cannot even be viewed by the original poster....

It isn't like I'm asking them to reveal secret requesters or high paying HITs. Am I asking for too much?
I asked the same question here and got some helpful advice, which is all I was really looking for anyways.

I get it though. There's a finite amount of money to be made and people don't want to give that up; but I don't see why advice and tips should be restricted.

Oh My. Why would anybody WANT to be a mod in any forum? That's just more work then it's worth. Mods in most places are overworked and underpaid (if they are paid at all).

I was been a member at TN for a long time. Kissed butt like a lot of people. Even logged into a home improvement site everyday for a month last year trying to help the moderator **Spam** get a new floor or somesuch rot. I got tired of all the crap that started when things got "SuperSecret, use your decoder ring" mentality. I enjoy the more laid back atmosphere here. Not to say that we will probably get a few crackheads raising hell here too before long. That just goes along with the territory.

Can you elaborate? Why did you login to a home improvement site?

    Did it earn her money?

She had some kind of bad luck, her, husband laid off from work or something. I think she had some type of damage to her house. I believe she lives in Canada and there was some home improvement place that ran a contest. The person that received the most recommendations from friends to win won a new floor. You went to their site and listed her name.

She begged everyone to log in and recommend. It's been awhile,so this may not be exactly how it happened, but pretty close, but she did not win.

    That sounds kind of pathetic.

I used to be a member of Turker Nation back when it was hosted at the old site. It is ok, it is just another forum. To be honest, mTurk is not what it used to be, and no secret forum will change that fact. No amount of posting on a secret forum will bring back the $10 surveys and the $4.75 CrowdSource HIT's.

If I want to be flamed or banned from a forum, I'd rather hang out on the city-data.com boards. More fun.

Those types of things still occasionally get posted. You just have to be lucky enough to find them. The people over there just seem much better at finding that sort of thing for some reason.

The last time I saw a $10 Columbia University survey was over a year ago. By focusing on silly private forums, people seem to be pretending that the entire "workload" isn't declining. People that actually made some sort of living with mTurk are having to find IRL jobs... jobs that might preclude them from spending all day on a message board posting about their cat and the latest Brad Pitt movie.

You guys are awesome :) Loved a bunch of these posts. I work all day too and I just don't have time to fool with a message board either where I have 20 million rules and have to post a TON so I can get information. I have been on the internet long enough to know there is always a way to find info.
The work at home mom forums have an mturk forum too and that board is full of fairly nice people and NICE mods who always want it to be NICE. That should be the goal of any forum. Post in the right place and be nice. Anything beyond that...doesn't make sense.
I don't need turkernation. I can search hits all by myself, lol.
And right on to the people who talked about kissing butt. I will never do that. I am nice and honest but beyond that...not going to happen. The only people I kiss up too are babies and animals,LOL! They are innocent enough to be able to get that privilege sometimes.

You guys are awesome! This forum should become big like that- It is nicer here, but I have seen some very rude comments and posts and a bit controlling/bullying. That might be a thing that could change here to make it AWESOME.

I agree with everyone who said they are too busy working to be kissing butt and posting on forums. Here here! I just come if I have a question or need a break in between stuff.

I have enough rules to follow with transcription- I don't need to have all of those on a forum where I came to get info, or I have questions etc. That would be too stressful, lol.

Especially when some of us previously had access to that forum and know exactly what was contained. There's no mystery!
