mboone, you want bird violence, put a hummingbird feeder in your yard. Those are the meanest birds since guinea fowls. All of them are bad tempered. They're armed, too. Each one has a sword.
The worst I've seen is a hawk that lives in my neighborhood. During winter, when it apparently can't get rodents from the ground due to snow or hibernation, it goes after my pigeons and mourning doves... Vile, violent creatures. There was a blood tornado left in the snow a few times when the bird struggled LOL. And feathers everywhere. If I lived in a more rural area, I would try to catch it but that will never happen where I am.
I want a Liang. I need a Liang. I'm having withdrawals from lack of a Liang. Just one more HIT, pleeeeaaaaseeeeee.....one more for an even 25. Then you can show me the way to the padded room.
A hawk landed on my fence one time. I was looking at him through the window. He looked back at me like "I dare you to come outside." I left him the fuck alone. It was like a dog with wings.
This person sprayed WD40 on the pole of the feeder. Nice idea but I don't know if WD40 is bad for squirrels.
Come to think of it, I've not seen even one hummingbird this spring. They always come to my orchid trees like mad and proceed to fight over a huge flowering tree. The trees are about out of flower and where are the birds? There are very few rats here anymore. We've got a pair of Great Horned Owls here. They are huge birds and every evening and morning I can hear them making their way up and down the Houston/ Galveston powerline right of way. Hooting along, no doubt eating rats. They remind me of cats, smugly grooming themselves. Staring down from a tower with big gold eyes.
Squirrels are cute and all until you try to pet one. Those things are really feisty. And bite. A lot.
Owls freak me out. The vomiting up bones, turning their heads all the way around, screaming. It's all a bit much.
Hope you had a good time. The weather was really nice for it. See post #213. You left right when I posted it.
Yeah, boone, we gots lots of owls in this area: Great Horned, Barred, Barn, Screech( several kinds). Those are the ones I remember off the top of my head. It's the Screech owls that sound like someone strangling a cat. There's one likes to roost in the tree outside my bedroom window. Nothing like lying there sleeping and a cat strangling bird starts up!
