I know that we needed to provide SS#, and when my daughter had problems with her account, she was told it was because she had never filed taxes, and that Amazon Payments coordinates with the IRS database. I don't know how accurate this is - it was over the phone when we were getting her account sorted out. I am not sure if that would provide demos or not, but it might.
That's been referred to as the "golden batch". I know there's a thread somewhere were people talking about certain theories, but I honestly think it's completely random.
That one banner ad at the top of the page was obnoxious. It blacked out my screen and then expanded a window and played a video as I was reading this thread.

I used to block all ads everywhere too and went for years without seeing any. Recently my laptop died and since I got this new one I haven't installed the extensions (yet). Amazingly, I have not been driven insane by advertising. A few years ago the pop ups and so on ruined browsing most sites. I will say, however, that youtube sucks without an adblocker.

Probably some other factors. I didn't try to make a comprehensive list. I suppose location could have some affect since location is used in quals and surveys. Quality of work could also count. I know Amazon will post hits where some special workers grade hits done on turk for how well they were done. The process was around before Masters was invented and of course Amazon claims it has nothing to do with it but it's true they don't want anyone to know their secrets so there's no reason to believe them. It would seem kind of foolish not to use that info in the process.
Ha I will never not install ad blockers. I did not even know that facebook had ads until I read it in the news. I keep a couple browsers ready for hits that require that you dont have them, but I wont browse without them.

I take the same stance with ad blocking as I do with piracy. If you like a specific band or site enough, do them a favor by sending some money their way.
You do know that adblocker no longer blocks all advertisements on google search results. So, I bet you've seen a few.
I've seen links to this a few times in forums, accepted it twice, and returned it both times. It sucks and I suggest avoiding it unless you're REALLY hard up for stuff to do on mturk.
Nope. I've only seen very specific ads generated by smaller sites themselves. And of course sites like this. I unblock them out of love.

Me too. I'm not turking, just here I assuaged my guilt about ad blocker on MTF by paying Andy $10 for the year to get rid of the ads <3 (and to make my name green!)
