Can't Find a Plethora of Great Hits? 4/26 Sunday!

Yes, I feel like screening someone out immediately after a failed AC is the thing to do, instead of forcing them to sit through another ~10 minutes of the HIT. That's not right.

You're right. I was a real social scientist once upon a time, and we hate shitty data. Shitty data can be the difference between Steve Levitt earning $250K at University of Chicago vs. your local Community College lecturer working to pay off student loans.

 

No idea. I've only seen a tiny handful of surveys say you'll get kicked out immediately from failed attention checks. Other surveys seem to be set up to run through the entire thing, and then you wind up with a rejection if you fail too many. You wouldn't be paid in any of those scenarios, but given the circumstances, at least denying a code doesn't leave you with a rejection and the illusion of being paid for however many days beforehand.

Still shitty, of course, but I don't see a reason to think she's going to use the data when she's got completed surveys to work with.

 

I get the anger and the frustration, but the way I see it, the requester has the right to reject you for failing an attention check. Our input is being used to determine a variety of different things, but they all boil down to results of statistics. They're being paid to calculate all this work, and hair trigger answers can cause an entire research project to go to hell.

Sure, a feature like a lot of surveys have that kicks you out for failing a check is nice.

However, I think "Once bitten, twice shy" here (with here being a rejection) makes workers realize they need to concentrate on their work. If a survey says it should take a given time, it's not always a number pulled out of a requester's ass.

They believe it should take that long, because they, or someone working with them, probably tested it.

So in short, I'm sorry you feel you were cheated out of pay, but maybe you should let it be a teaching lesson to you.

I kind of hate these HITs, but at the same time they are brainless, take 6 - 7 minutes, and always pay.

Yeah I hate them too but I make at least 6 bucks a day off of them. If they'd take out it showing you how many you have left each time it would cut the time in half on these. It seems like they take forever but in actuality it's only 7 min or so. It's the way it is set up!!! But still, good for slow times.

 

Definitely good for slow times, and I don't even know why I hate them as much as I do, but I do hate them.

I agree if they would take out the "click through how many you've been shown" part, they would take less time. There should just be a progress bar or something. No need to double the time by having people constantly click through the number of pictures they've seen so far.

 

I think I will let them know how it really slows down progress next time I do one. They have a comment box.

 

Good idea, I will do the same. It's nice to know your progress but if done in a way that it doubles the HIT time, it's just poorly implemented. A progress bar would be so much better.

 

they've revised the email reply to those that contacted in the last hour.
now it says they regret that the survey didn't end as soon as the AC was missed
and they have pulled the survey. so it was broken.

about the free data. it's besides the point if they use the data
though probably right they wouldn't want to include it they might still use it in other ways
to compare those that didn't fail the AC.
and of course, some requesters undeniably do set their hits up with short timers just to get free data/work even if this one was a mistake.

I had only heard of it. But know that you've explained it better here (thanks) I think that's happened to me. Once last year, a timer ran out halfway through. I was on it since the start, no distractions...Got quite a bit of info out of me before the timer expired the HIT. I know what to look out for now...It's only happened once to me, but still. If we see that, and return the HIT, they don't get any data from it right?
