I just got rejected by a requester. He said: Greetings from Amazon Mechanical Turk, You've received a bonus from James R. Beebe for work related to 2D15OPB0YVGZOTZ4YV5PHU3130O7ZI. The value of your bonus is: $0.25 USD The Requester included this note: I screwed up by rejecting your work for my HIT. Please accept my apology and this bonus. Thanks for being a Worker on Mechanical Turk! This is the second time this happened to me. The first time, the requester claimed that he couldn't reverse it. This time, I emailed him telling him how rejections harm us workers and that he can reverse it and if he would please reverse it. We will see what happens. I'm getting tired of those "error" rejections and then they don't do anything about it.
I have dealt with the same on a few occasions. I do not even bother anymore trying to get them to fix it. Most just say they can't and no amount of me telling them they can has changed anything.
Yeah. I did the exact same HIT, exact same requester, exact same rejection, and exact same apology. I doubt this guy is going to reverse the rejection.
Same thing happened to me! Requesters should be more careful about rejections and only reject when they are absolutely sure someone did poor quality work! They have no idea how badly it effects us and our future work potential!
Just to vent my frustration on error rejections, I emailed Amazon with this letter and that I did contact the requester. I know they can't do anything but I had to get it out of my system. lol. They'll probably say something like, "you have to contact the requester about this problem". It's as if he rejects so he doesn't have to pay but not in this case. He did pay us as a 'bonus' so I'm not sure what his motive is if any, or if it truly was a mistake. There is so many of us he did it to so it feels fishy.
You guys are being a little harsh. Are you honestly trying to tell me that you've never once made a mistake when working on a HIT? Maybe you missed something in the directions? Accidentally submitted a HIT without answer one of the questions? We've ALL made some mistakes while turking. It's the same with requesters. They're entitled to make a mistake here and there. This requester obviously did the right thing by admitting the mistake and paying a bonus to make up for it. It really shouldn't be that big of a deal. If one single rejection is going to make or break your mturk account then there are issues beyond this one HIT by this one requester.
Gary, I have to agree 100% with all of your comments. I am sure that only about 1/2 of my mistakes are being rejected by requesters. I don't do it deliberately, but some times when working on my tenth HIT, I realize I made mistakes on earlier ones. The biggest complaint I have in this regard is not the mistaken rejects, its the misleading instructions. Outright poor instructions I avoid, but the ones that are ambiguous can still trip me.
I have no problems accepting my mistakes on a HIT. But those error rejects aren't mistakes. I only have 303 accepted HITS with 2 "error" rejections from requesters who said they made a mistake and couldn't reverse the rejections and 2 rejections by my own mistakes. With only 303 HITS and 4 rejections, it hurts my scores. When a requester makes a mistake, it does not hurt them but it hurts us. So yes, it does bother me when a requester makes a mistake and cannot reverse it. (so they say but I've heard they can)
I got an update from the requester and Amazon. The requester emailed me saying they are working on reversing the rejections. Amazon said they were sorry to hear about this error rejection and that they cannot interfere with it which I knew but they provided instructions for me to give to requesters who want to reverse rejections: Reversing Rejections: In cases where your Amazon Mechanical Turk HITs were rejected in error we have API tools available to approve rejected assignments. Information on how to do this can be found in our documentation. http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/A...rence_ApproveRejectedAssignmentOperation.html If you, the Requester, are unable to complete this using the APIs please let us know and we can take this action on your behalf. In order to do this we just need you to provide the following information: 1. Assignment IDs 2. Worker IDs 3. Date(s) of HIT submission 4. Confirmation that you have funds available on your account to pay for the HITs. This information can all be obtained from the .csv file for the results of the HIT. The assignment ID can be found in column O, Worker ID in column P and the submission time in column S. Also, please note this process can take up to 3-5 business days to be completed once we have this information. I hope this helps. I thought that was helpful so I'll keep this instructions and send it to any requesters who apologizes for any rejections by mistake.
It's understandable if it is an error and they fix it... but from my experience they don't fix it. I've not had one rejection that was purely an accident get fixed. They act like they can't do it. I even had one agree it was a mistake and wouldn't pay me the money nor would he overturn it and he stopped emailing me back when I sent him how to fix it. It's 1 of 12 rejects I have! All but 2 of mine are from requester's error and they would not fix them. I am not above mistakes... I usually know when I make one. The problem is they don't want to fix them and some won't even pay you for their mistake! They start ignoring you. I agree we all make mistakes...we are all human but some of these requesters play dumb. Some are good and try to help you while others just don't care.
