Many Asians have fake USA accounts. They use to redeem there earnings in gift card and then buy a product from amazon.
LOL which explains why Amazon is no longer allowing sign ups outside of the US. The longer this goes on, the more comes out as to why it is that this might have happened. In the past week, I have seen people outside of the US try to buy US-based accounts, sell them, using somebody's elses name and ID to open a new account, social security number fraud and now this. It's all starting to make sense why sign ups were turned off.
People amaze me too. But I don’t know why anyone is surprised. When requesters price their HITs for the developing world, who is really surprised when the developing world queues up to do the work?
Very true! However, if they'd wise up and realize if they want quality work then they should pay quality prices!!
That would not be enough. Strict identification policies would have to go along with that. I have read here that workers from the Subcontinent have to submit several documents to get an account approved. I only seem to remember validating a bank account myself. My bank has been bought/merged so may times that I doubt anyone there could pull any document that verifies I am an American citizen. Amazon seems bent on letting the banks & financial institutions do the heavy lifting on verifying residence, though.
I really should be amazed at the stupidity of some people but I just can't be anymore LOL I've seen far too much. As Robert Anthony said... 'Some people drink from the fountain of knowledge, others just gargle.'
Could we please remember in all discussions that the world is not divided into 2 parts: the US and the Indian subcontinent? There are lots of Mturkers in other places on the globe...and not just in the developing world. Paypal manages to verify accounts worldwide, why wouldn't Mturk? Paypal manages to transfer funds (real money, not gift cards) to accounts worldwide, with a few notable exceptions, why doesn't Mturk? Is there a certain amount of laissez-faire laziness at Mturk??? Ah, yes. A certain amount of unwillingness? A major desire to create the cyber equivalent of a 'company town'? Ah, yes, yes, yes.
Same here! I just verified a bank account a long time ago and switched banks a time or two since then. Yeah Turkalicious they gargle then spit it back out...it don't seem to stick! LOL
What part of asia are you from it's crazy how easy it is to write in english but ask me to write in an asian language I'm like lol
Nobody is talking about the workers who actually are legit... in my eyes everyone is equal unless they are trying to scam the system!
C'mon lets be serious nice guys finish last Americans should know this the best, we got all these corrupt officials and corporate ceo's.
Which is why I'm a major supporter of limiting mTurk to a select number of locations. If requesters didn't have people working for slave wages they'd be forced to up their pay or they just wouldn't get their work done. As for the original post, you are exactly what is wrong with mTurk. Idiot scammers like this ruin it for everyone.
There's a huge difference between mTurk and Paypal. Paypal is basically an online bank, they are just holding and transferring funds, while taking a fee for their service. MTurk is providing a platform for work to be done and money to be earned. They're not the employer in this situation, but they provide the workforce for the companies/requesters. They're basically like a staffing agency, and have every right to choose what geographic locations they wish to serve.
