Chrome and FireFox both updated recently, and they added something to security that may prevent you from working on our HITs. There's a workaround, and we are also working on a permanent fix. External HITs like ours are served in an iframe. The security update in both browsers basically says: no HTTP iframes in HTTPS sites. When you're logged in to Mechanical Turk, the page you're on is HTTPS, and right now our HITs aren't, so they'll get blocked. We are working on switching our hosting to HTTPS, which will solve the issue. I'm not sure how long that will take though, so there is one trick you can use in the meantime. In both browsers there's a little shield icon in the address bar when this happens (on the right in Chrome, on the left in FF). Clicking the shield should reload the page, and allow the HIT to load this time. We apologize for any inconvenience, and are working to update our servers so this isn't an issue anymore.
Update: We've switched over to HTTPS hosting, which should have fixed the problem. Now some Turkers (but not all) are having trouble submitting HITs. The page will say that the answer is submitted, but then hang and eventually time out. We are investigating this problem, and will try to get it fixed as soon as possible.
Finally have an update with good news. I believe we've found, and fixed all the problems caused by the security updates. I'm getting feedback from Turkers saying that they are now able to submit HITs when they weren't before.
Hi, I'm having a problem viewing hits...before I could click on the shield icon and fix it, but now I don't have a shield anymore...just a gray padlock. Any advice? It seems to block only the hits I like doing.
