Might be easier to just leave it on legacy boot, that can make things easier. Doing a Google search, it doesn't appear to be the most Linux-friendly board out there, but there are rarely problems that can't be worked through. I ran into this suggestion. The author was trying to install using a USB thumb drive, but you might want to try changing this setting, too: The problem is that this specific motherboard has IOMMU support disabled by default. To solve this, go into the bios settings and turn it on. Debian boots just fine once this is done.
I never tried mint but boot problems are sometimes video related have you tried typing something like xforcevesa into the boot prompt? search turns up quite a few pages. boot mint live dvd blank screen error

It is interesting you mention a video problem because one of the errors says something about Radeon and invalid romantic contents. When I boot the computer I get a Linux mint is starting automatically and it counts down. Thenjoy I get some errors and then a screen with the Linux mint logo then more errors and then the black screen.
Of course I would pick hardware that makes things much harder... might have to figure out how to afford windows.
I think theres a trick for accessing the survey if I remember, something to do with editing the url.. I forget though and I'm not sure it would work on this survey's platform anyway
Don't give up yet. Do another download/burn and try again. Or try the disk you burned in another machine (I think you mentioned you had another computer in the house) and see if it boots to a desktop. If you can figure out where the failure is occurring half the battle is over. You did say you wanted to play and learn, no?
I found something that showed how to boot into compatibility mode and it came up. I think it is my gpu for sure. Just need to update the drivers now. Butilizing now my mouse is not working. Scratch that I got the mouse working now I have to figure out how to update my driver I think.

So elt was right about it being a video problem, I wasn't sure you were getting that far in the boot process. That's great news. Remember that updating drivers and installing software is a different process in Linux than in Windows. As a new user, it's best to stick to your package manager (similar to an app store) rather than downloading random software from the Internet. Drivers should be installable from the package manager or somewhere in the settings (sometimes you'll even get a pop-up windows asking if you want to install them). You'll need to check the documentation or the Mint forum, I don't use Mint so I'm not sure where you'll find proprietary drivers.
