Uh oh. I'm going to owe about $1500 for the year and didn't file quarterly. It's been nice knowing you, Mturk Forum. Unless you meant expected to owe $1000 for the quarter, then I guess I'm ok.

Glad the tax talk is allowed. I just did ours today on taxact, and according to them they can be turned in as early as the 11th for the HUB test batch, and then the normal ones begin on the 19th. I file jointly, and my husbands income covers whatever I would owe here, so we still get a regular return back every year. If I was single I would pay them quarterly just so I wouldn't have such a big chunk to pay at the beginning of the year. My mother in law is a small business owner and she pays quarterly and gets a refund for her expenses.

I think there's an estimated tax calculator somewhere that figures all that out for you. I don't claim any business expenses or anything since that just gets super complicated.

    yep.

get someone who knows what they are doing. dont just go to some H&R block.

you'll be amazed what you can write off if you save receipts.

i live in a hotel and got a new laptop this year. both are write offs.

This is my first year filing HoH and we get to work together to figure out how to split the kids up and all that jazz to maximize stuff and let me tell you... it was so confusing reading about it all. But I think I have it figured out how we need to do it and I'm just thankful we get along so we can do that lol But it was so much easier filing as a married chick lol

No way, lady, you're missing out! TurboTax makes it really easy. It asks how much you pay for internet, if you have a designated office space, etc. Really easy questions. The deductions are worth it

Nah. I don't qualify for the office deduction since I work in my bedroom (not a dedicated office). The other stuff is so minor I don't worry about it.

Edit: That'll change of course when I start my business business, but for turking I have no actual expenses beyond the very basics.

I love TurboTax! It's sooo user friendly and guides you through it all but it's also sooo expensive, the self-employment one. So I turned to TaxAct last year which is free for me and that worked out just fine. I compared the two and the results was the same at the end.
