Speaking of investing, have you guys heard of "peer to peer" lending... specifically LendingClub It really looks promising... is there an investment only thread on this site?

I used it a few years back, on the borrowing end. Looks promising, had no issues. The main thing I would worry about is getting your money back if you invest, but they used to say something like 90% paid back the full loan. I don't know if the number has changed though.
Yes. Another offshoot of Crowdfunding. I am part of a KIVA team but you don't earn money on those lines. Still feels good to help others out though
Yes, there is the danger of default/non payment, but statistically it's quite small. It depends on the credit rating of the borrower (not surprising). but you can always lend to people with higher credit and surprisingly they never default. The point is people are regularly getting returns of 5 -10%...for now. If the economy takes a major downturn like in 08/09, then you are SOOL I presume. But for now, it really does look pretty solid.
Yes, very much in the Mturk/Kickstarter vein of looking for "crowd" solutions -- and I love it! Borrowers are getting lower rates (taking out the corporate/financial intermediary really helps lower costs). Instead of us putting the money in the bank, getting .5% and the bank getting all the money from lending to people, we get a lot of the money instead! Really promising... edit: meant to say "lending to" not "borrowing from"
