It runs for awhile - like 20 minutes or so and then I get the BSOD - it says "uncorrectable hardware error" the code is 0x000...124 I don't ever hear the fan run at all - which makes me think overheating, and the one time I ran it at night this week, the AC was cranking and it went almost 1 hour before I got the BSOD. It's a Samsung, and I haven't added/updated any drivers that I can think of. Well, I added a new printer a month ago, but I added it to all my computers and none of the other ones are having issues. thx
I did these yesterday - looks like you're limited to 25 total. They all approved and they're easy. Also do you have any software to monitor temps on hardware? Can check out http://www.piriform.com/speccy which is free.
I've used speedfan since I got my desktop, and it works pretty well. Never tried speccy though, just giving an alternative. I chose speedfan because it had a nice rainmeter plugin.
Honestly i'd probably try that first, could possibly help it. Look at your motherboard manufacturers website.
Here's a pretty straight forward walkthrough that will help you with that. http://www.7tutorials.com/how-update-bios-your-computers-motherboard-5-steps
That's tricky though. Unless you have a newer bios, it can be a really involved process that, if screwed up, can render your system unbootable. Not trying to discourage you, just make sure you do some googling and find some step-by-step instructions to do it. It's not overly difficult if you can find a decent tut...but I do recommend it as well. Bios updates are important, just like all other updates. The reason it's difficult is some MB's can only update the bios from a floppy, and you have to reformat a flash drive to pretend it's a floppy or something. I've never once screwed it up, nor has anyone I know, but it is a potential problem you should think about.
That error code is typically associated with heat issues. Though it CAN be processor or ram related on some occasions(though nowhere near as much heat wise). You most likely have a dead fan, or assuming it's a fanless laptop (Some use massive heatpipe all over the place)the contact compound is basically latex rubber at this point. You will most likely need to take it into shop as laptop cases are intentionally setup to be a cunt to open.
Merely a traveler. Who was fortunate to not be traded to the tinkers by my grandmother for a new dog. "Please Miss WitchyWoman don't curse me to be rich and handsomer. I dunno how I would ever handle dat." (Think Bri'er Rabbit)
If you want poor/mediocre but easy - do Berg, she raised the pay from .05 to .07, still underpaid, but easy.
