It's one of the best. I might be biased because I love Gen Urobuchi's writing ever since Saya no Uta. Just wait til ep 3 Much as the previews tease, it's more of a deconstruction of the magical girl genre, than a stereotypical magical girl show.

Yup. I got interested through the music, stayed for the story. The only work he's done that's totally not dark and twisted was suisei no gargantia, but even that was amazing.

I watched it after all the BD versions were all out, so it was after the hype and all that. I disregarded the hype and was interested because of Gen lol. Oh. And Shaft animated it.
Yeah, I got the BD verisons after it ended and marathoned the entire thing in two sittings...I went out of my way to avoid spoilers at all costs so I could get the "full experience"...But I guess I just expected more out of it than what was delivered because of what everybody was saying about it. Loved the animation in the witch scenes, though.

Yeah I guess the hype was too much for it (like Duke nukem forever.. game was very duke-ish but nowhere as good as the hype), but I still like it for what it's worth. I just can't wait for the third movie.
