I enjoy them too, and for the same reasons. But no worries. There are always LOTS and LOTS of math class transcriptions through CS. If that's your cup of tea, just keep checking back. I think at least 50% of what CS does is math classes.

And I like those too. At one time, back in the dark ages, I was actually studying to be an electrical engineer. ;-)

Woot! Now I just need to get my work trainee reassigned to another co-worker so I can have time to do transcriptions at my full-time job, instead of wandering through Turkdom on 3rd shift at my secondary job.

I really admire people who get advanced math. My algebra's fine and financial calculations are part of my real-life job. In school I made it to Calculus, barely passed, and realized anything beyond that was way beyond me.

In one of the equations I transcribed the Professor simplified the equation using derivatives. My first thought was that nothing having to do with derivatives was simple at all.

I got as far as differential equations when I was studying engineering. I realized I was in over my head and withdrew from the class before the semester ended. I remember I used to spend hours at the homework and that I actually developed a tic in my right eye trying to puzzle out some of that stuff. I mean, it's not like you get an actual answer, like 42 or whatever, from any of that stuff. All you do is substitute one equation for another, really. It was my intention to go back and repeat the class before the DiffEQ class, gain a better understanding of that material, and then attempt DiffEQ again. But I learned I was pregnant about a week after I dropped out of the DiffEQ class, and that changed all my priorities, so ... still enjoy talking the talk. My now-in-college daughter asked for help with a physics homework problem she had the other day. The problem went something like this:

Radio stations are sometimes not allowed to broadcast into certain areas because the radio signal will interfere with equipment or other forms of communication. To stop their signal from penetrating these areas, radio stations will broadcast from radio towers in a straight line exactly one-half wavelength apart built perpendicular to the area toward which they don't want their signal to penetrate. Why does this work?

I was able to tell her in plain English why it worked, but I couldn't give her any math equations to back up my plain English explanation. Her father (who is an electrical engineer, BTW) was able to supply the equation, but he hadn't fully understood why it worked until she got us on a three-way and I told him my plain English explanation.

I really enjoyed the half hour the three of us spent wrangling with the problem over the phone. I guess the family that nerds together stays together, huh? :-Df
