I've been hearing about that place the entire time I've been turking. Makes me glad I stumbled upon MTF first! That would have totally turned me off, too.
I found MTF first too by googling a question I had in Mturk. I don't remember what it was. Wasn't until later that I learned there was TN.
Honestly if you had started a couple years earlier MTF was a cesspool. I signed up here in 2012 and used to drop in and just smh it was a terrible place.

The first few months that I was turking was before they even had the Daily Thread. Just a bunch of random posts so I know what you mean. Funny though. The reason how I found out about mturk in the first place was that I got one of those "Do you want to make $100 an hour online selling real estate type of scam emails." I was so bored and curious as to why anybody would ever fall for that stuff. I googled something like "are there actually any legit ways to make money online?" I saw a blog that mentioned mturk, saw that it was by Amazon and then googled mturk to see if it was mentioned online. Found MTF and figured that mturk had some legitimacy if there was actually a forum about it.
Yeah there is no way to really say what I meant without sounding racist so I actually deleted a lot of what I had written before I posted, but there were a lot of scam and account selling posts when I first started. This place had a pretty bad rep in 2012 and part of 2013. The daily hits thread really turned it around and then they brought in mods that started banning and deleting those posts.
I remember those days. We'd just post an individual thread here and there. Thinking back to the first time I made money online, it was a greenfield online survey. No guaranteed pay, but a raffle. I got an email saying that I had won $500 from the raffle and to fill out some form. it errored out and I thought it was a scam, but a couple of weeks later I had a valid check in my mailbox. I also remember some weird advertising slot machine website-- I won like $50-60 on that.
I remember the guy that started the daily threads had a lion avatar. I thought he was obnoxious, but whatever. It did help.
Thats funny because I have a degree from ECU, who spanked you today with the help of the Coach that graduated from my high school. Go Pirates!!!
It was similar for me, I was browsing /r/beermoney on Reddit where a few people mentioned MTurk, which led me to /r/HWTF where I'd check for HITs when I first signed up (and never be able to catch anything, lol), and a thread on there led me here.
That's exactly how it went for me, too! Hopefully you hadn't been doing it for three months already like I had. What a noob. Circle of life, eh? Turned out okay, if in need of a little defibrillation at the moment.
I joined TN first back then. Still don't have any privileges there because I never made a single post.
3 points mang, c'mon... :rolleyes: Girlfriend just graduated from ECU!. I went for a semester before I transferred back to State. As you can probably see, I haven't put my degree to much use yet since I've had to get into turking.
