Current hit titled. "Participate in a survey about online forum moderation (WARNING: This HIT may contain mature content." should not be accepted. Hit was rejected despite adhering to instructions and diligently completing tasks. He's just trying to collect his data and save a buck. What a scumbag.

Anbang Xu--- this one too--- followed all the instructions, answered the questions within the hit and it was immediately rejected. I sent a message asking why it was rejected and nothing back in response yet. Definitely learned my lesson and thank you for your post as well. I've seen those Aaron Ashley ones and thought about doing one- you saved me a rejection.

I left the following report at Turkopticon. I hope it helps you with your issue.

    PAID ******

7 minutes -> 35 cents for educational research project

My HIT had no mature content.

Rejection within one day: "Did not give full faith effort. Missed control questions."

I sent a polite message through amazon turk, then saw the messages here. I am escalating:

    LETTER TO REQUESTER'S SUPERVISOR

    Dear Eric Amsel,

I understand that you are the chair of the psychology department at Weber State University.

I completed a task at AmazonMechanicalTurk (MTURK). Dr. Aaron L. Ashley requested the work that is being done. Just now, I discovered that Dr. Ashley's reputation is horrific.

I sent a message through normal channels to Dr. Ashley, regarding the rejection notice that I received in response to the work that I accepted through MTURK. When I discovered his reputation, I decided to ask you to address the grievances raised by my fellow workers and me.

If you can access http://microwork-dev.ucsd.edu/A3LK1Z2RT9ZLIW you will see what workers have reported about Dr. Ashley. You will see that of the 20 reports, 17 gave the lowest possible ratings, in addition to my report at that website.

At that website, you will see that all 18 of us reported that our work was rejected for the same reason: "Did not give full faith effort. Missed control questions." I would like to point out that many "requestors" have stellar ratings that are substantiated by dozens of reports.

You might notice that several workers reported that Dr. Ashley violated MTURK Terms of Service. You can see the Terms of Service to which workers refer https://www.mturk.com/mturk/help?helpPage=policies#violation_examples

I am hoping you will take action so every worker who completed the task in good faith will be fairly compensated.

Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

    Sincerely,
    Grace Buchanan

    RESPONSE TO LETTER I SENT

Within 4 hours, I received a response from Dr. Ashley:
"Due to an error with our data management system, an inordinate proportion of responses were flagged and subsequently rejected. I currently have a request in to the Amazon Mechanical Turk support trying to figure out how to most efficiently resolve this issue. I apologize for the issue, but I am working on a solution."
