I'm switching banks and I need to re-verify my account with Amazon but I'm afraid to leave a balance in my mturk account because of all the horror stories of people getting their accounts suspended and loosing all their money. How much have any of you left in your account at any given time? Do you guys think I should just swap out my funds for a gift card and start turking for cash again after my account is verified?

That is what I would do.. I withdrawl as soon as I hit the $10 mark, even if I do it a bunch of times a day. It depends on how much you have in your account though really.. if its something like $20 or maybe even a little more I wouldn't be too concerned. It seems that when people save up hundreds that their accounts are banned..

The only time I have left a "nice" chunk of change in my account was during my 10 day initial turking period. Once I was able to withdraw my funds, I took out the exact amount of $148.34...yes I was proud of that...and totally scared shitless that something would happen to my account before my 10 days were up...:)

For the most part, I withdraw at $10...sometimes I don't catch it right then and it is a little higher, but I always cash out if it is at least $10 regardless of how many times a day!

Turking isn't the best job in the world, but money is money! Don't leave it sitting for someone else to keep when you have earned every last penny! :)

I have 40 in there, I want to withdraw but I have to order more checks from the bank so that I can add a bank account to the thing. Seriously worried.

Call your bank and get your info so you can add it.. unless this is your first time ordering checks.. I wouldn't worry at $40 though.. all the horror stories I have heard have been when people had hundreds saved up

I usually cash out once a day and haven't had a problem. The only scare I've had was when everyone woke up that one morning and saw unavailable instead of their balance. I really need the cash more than a gift card but I suppose that it would be safer. The holidays are coming after all. Thanks for your input guys!

Is there a way to hook it up to your paypal account?

I'm sorry I don't think that there is.

I don't think there is a way to hook it up to paypal either. You have to have an account number and a routing number for direct deposit.

Do you have a prepaid debit card? I know I used one that I have to add a credit card to my account so that I could get all my money to switch to paid, on top of having a verified bank account on file with Amazon.

I'm not sure how long it would take to get one of those verified as your bank account, but I am sure not any longer than a "normal" bank.

You should definitely call your bank, or look at one of your deposit slips, it will have the info you need to verify. I wouldn't worry too much though...sometimes we talk ourselves into worrying about things that need not be worried about! I'm sure all will be fine, but if you feel better applying it to an Amazon GC...have at it...you can get almost anything from Amazon...:) Too bad they don't accept Amazon GC's at the grocery store...haha...:)

Forgive my sarcasm, I'm sure all will be fine!!!

Hmm, I'd been planning on leaving all of mine in there until about Christmas shopping time. I didn't realize it wasn't "safe" there.

It's not the fact that it isn't "safe" there! Amazon will and has suspended accounts for any given reason. Trying to get your money from them after being suspended will be more of a chore than turking was to make that money! KWIM

I would just rather play it safe than lose everything I have earned due to unforeseeable (is that a word?, I'm so tired...haha:) ) circumstances!

I would suggest to anyone that doesn't have a verified bank account associated with their account to do so ASAP! Better safe than sorry...

After reading the forums, the pros and cons of turking (seems more cons than pros) leaves me to wonder is mturk safe to work. It's pretty sad reading about many members being banned for unjust reasons, the raunchy way some requestors play dirty to avoid paying out. The amount of effort many on here seem to be doing to make a dollar, and for such a small pay out and now this thread on leaving money in your account. I have yet to withdraw, only been doing mturk a little over a month and shy of $100 in my account.I don't like the idea of having to wonder when I do go to collect will I be able to, hell my concern yesterday was how can I improve my hits in a shorter amount of time and make that extra change
but now reading this well hmph gas on me why don't you..... blows me away!!!
I think it's awesome despite all the cons that you as workers/members encourage each other, was truly impressed by the way alot of threads were encouraging each other despite the crappy pay on many of the hits, and the unfairness of some requestor, stand up and applaud yourselves that is awesome and by far great team work!!!

    ^ I do the same.
Initially, I only signed up to pay for a stop sign ticket, so I didn't make my first transfer until I had the full amount. I guess I waited 6 wks or so.

The way Amazon suspends and locks accounts, I don't want to take a chance of losing anything. Most long time turkers keep their account cleaned out. Every time I reach $10, I transfer, sometimes several times a day, depending on the volume.

There have been multiple horror stories of people losing 100s of dollars when their account is mysteriously locked.

Mine usually hits between 24-48 hours. I'm not sure why, but in the past few months it's gotten quicker - used to take 3-4 days minimum. Same bank, too, although they were recently bought out so that may explain it.

I'm in the "take it out as soon as you can" camp, as well. In three years I don't think I've ever let my account get above $20 before making a transfer.

Oddly enough, it only takes my bank 2 business days for Mturk to hit.
Anything else (like Paypal) takes the standard 4-7 for me.
