I've seen alot about how to locate your MTurk worker ID, and am unsure if I've found mine or not on an email that I'd sent to a requester... don't know if that's my number or theirs. But the question is this, even if I knew my MTurk worker ID, what is the point of a requester demanding this information? If they actually pay the hit, wouldn't they automatically get that information anyhow? So far, every requester that has demanded this information from me, and received the honest answer of "I don't know" has not paid me for the work I've performed. I feel that asking me for my MTurk worker ID is akin to asking me for my bank account information, or my email address or other private information. I feel that if MTurk doesn't provide that information to the requester, then there must be a pretty good reason for not providing it, and if they DO provide it then it's a pretty stupid thing to expect me to provide it TOO, in order to get paid. This has added up to quite a bit of money and time, since it's usually some half hour survey that the last question demands the Worker ID! Can someone please advise me? Should I simply be reporting these people for MTurk violation regarding my MTurk worker privacy? Thank you in advance for your help
The worker id in surveys is just used to match the survey you just filled out to the HIT you are submitting. There is no problem providing it. If you are unsure what your worker id is or where to find it, do this: 1. Sign in to your mTurk account 2. Copy and paste the following in your address bar (replacing www.mturk.com/mturk/dashboard) : javascript:alert("Worker ID is "+s.prop1); 3. Press Enter A small window will pop up showing your 14-digit worker id.
That trick does not work for me, but I do appreciate you easing my fear about requesters asking for it. I was skeptical, mighty skeptical. I thought they were trying to gain access to my MTurk account, perhaps to steal my hard-won earnings.
