jadedworker: This is possible. Many of the bonuses are like this since they're calculated formulaically. If it's really that bothersome I could look into rounding some of the numbers off. But then you don't get those fractions of a cent adding up in the long run due to successive bonuses!

millworkman: No worries. You won't get a welcome email if you aren't missing at least one of them (we tell if you're new by whether or not you have the quals) but that's about it. You automatically get the quals as soon as the HIT is approved anyway.

EDIT: Hmmm, well I did some googling and apparently the fractional cent thing can get annoying. I added some rounding (0.005+ rounds to 0.01). I'm going to go and check now if I can round out people's accounts.

Awesome thank you! I'm sorry I hope I didn't sound rude or anything, it's completely understandable that it would add up in the long run. I'm still thankful for the bonus of course!

jadedworker: No problem, you didn't sound rude at all. I think I have the pay leveling all figured out now so I'll probably run that script later today or tomorrow morning.
    EDIT2: Done!

REMINDER: At 11:30AM EST TOMORROW (Friday) another batch is going up! Have a great rest of your day!

EDIT: And I apologize for the scarcity of HITs at present, we currently haven't thought of any economic indicators that require HITs besides this weekly rail traffic one (yet) but stay tuned. There will be more.

Quick question, in the future should we expect more than ~50? I hopped on as soon as the batch was posted and I'm slightly disappointed that thousands of people all have access to the same batch of 50 HITs.

I agree. Especially with a qualifying batch. I feel you would get more workers, if the qualifying ones were limited to one per person. Would still be hard to catch one, when there were only 50 to start with.

I got my qual dropped for two answers that did not match the consensus answer. On at least one of them the consensus answer was wrong. The hit asked for North American Metallic Ores and Metals but the consensus answer was the number for U.S. Metallic Ores and Metals. My answer was the correct number. I sent an email explaining this. I appreciate the fast payment but I hope you are going to review the emails you get. I suspect the same was true for the second hit where I gave the total number of carloads but the consensus answer was the total amount of traffic (carloads plus intermodal).

That's the problem with majority rules; the majority can have the reading comprehension skills of a 1st grader (or serious scamming effort), but diligent workers suffer. That's why I won't do majority rules. Ever.

Requester already responded to my emails and adjusted my qual. to reflect that I was right about one hit. I was wrong about the other.

Thanks for bringing this up and I completely agree. Our batches are definitely very small right now, and they only come once a week. This is not a lot of HITs at all, and many people are left out because of it.
You can count on larger and more numerous batches in the future as we look for more economic indicators to import into our database. Right now we only have this one Rail Traffic report which report happens to be small, but there are other reports (some simpler, some more complex) that can have upwards of 200 economic indicators in them (which means 200 HITs). We're looking for some of these right now and I'll post here as soon as we have them ready.

Long story short, yes, you can expect larger HIT batches in the future. We only just created this system, so we're still looking for more applications for it.

Also, I think it's worth mentioning that this is not a Qualifying Batch in the typical sense. We won't suddenly make all of our HITs require some qualification level where if you don't have it then you can never get it. Rather, we will always have batches that require at least 0 qual (like this one and hopefully some other bigger ones) and we may post others that require some higher number later on.

I received your emails and have responded to both. You were right about the Metallic Ores thing. I've restored your Qual and really appreciate your reaching out to us.

If anyone has any ideas about how to figure out when the majority might be wrong (besides having an awesome Turker like RockinRobin point it out), we'd greatly appreciate it!

Agreed. We're considering an "Unanimous-Rule" policy instead and will be testing it in our next batch. With this policy one person's mistake will delay payment for all involved, as a real person will need to review the HIT manually. But at least nobody will be penalized to the benefit of a bad majority. These changes will be transparent to those working on the HITs. A slight delay in payment in some cases should be the only difference.

    Other ideas are welcome.

No problem. I really wish we had more for you guys to do right now-- it's frustrating to have so many people willing to help but so little to do.

We're probably going to do a couple test runs of our modifications sometime early next week in addition to our official batch scheduled for next Friday. Both will still contribute to your score, pay, etc. I'll let you guys know about this. Any emails you receive about the next scheduled HIT batch will say Friday, so for info about the tests you'll have to watch this thread instead.

Have a great weekend and thanks for all of your comments-- they've been really helpful so far and we hope to improve our HITs as much as we can (hopefully with bigger batches, as soon as we can find more things to do). As always, suggestions are welcome!

The test will be on Tuesday, July 30th (tomorrow) at 10:30AM EST. It will contain the usual 52 HITs. Feel free to drop by if you're online!

EDIT: Very small test out now (3:04PM EST, Wednesday)

    No tests out now.

Well, I requested the correct qual that was supposed to be automatic and never received an email. I did this in late July. I only requested the one qual that was indicated here in the forum. When I went back to check, it said I have to wait 8 weeks to try again.

    ??????????????

I never even got it the first time, like everyone else did. I have never done a single HIT for this requester, either. Are you not giving out quals anymore?

I did ten (approved) HITs when this requester first put them up. I requested the qualification, too. Never received it.
