So,I'm new on mturk, just started 1/8/13,and have seen pretty good luck with Oscar Smith and CrowdSource hits so far.CrowdSources hits are about $.08 or so and Oscar's are a little $.02,but both are easy as heck and pay fairly quickly.Oscars does have an issue with their copy business card info hit right now,but if you don't mind your abandoned hits # going up,then it might be right for you.I did about 80 of Oscar's hits today and made about $1.70.Now mturks won't let me do anymore hits for today.Does anyone know if they lift the daily hit limit after the 10 day trial period is up?Because I could make a little more money that way.Well thanks anyone who can help.:thumb:

Really? Banging out 80 Oscar HITs for $1.70 isn't too bad for you? I've never done one of his HITs and never will. You'll never make any real money working on those slave wage HITs. And yes after 10 days the limit is lifted.

Whatever is posted. I don't do batches everyday it just depends. I'm just saying you can get a lot more money doing good paying batches that are posted(.10 a min or better) and surveys rather than .02 Oscar HITs all day.

It shouldn't abandon like that, and even if it does, you have 10 minutes. So just make sure you keep checking the hits assigned to you tab.

As you spend more time on MTurk, you'll see how Oscar hits aren't worth it. CrowdSource is occasionally okay by me though. Their searching HIT's can usually be done pretty fast but they have a limit on them so you can only do them as new ones become available after a certain point.

Keep an eye on the Great HITs thread over here and you'll find better stuff to do.

I actually like some of the Crowdflower HITS for getting my numbers up. You just have to be very selective. Try some out and just do the ones that you can breeze through. They normally give you 60 minutes to do them so if you find a good, quick, high paying survey, you can always go back to it.

Those in the "know" pretty much agree that Oscar Smith is slave labor. With that said, I don't personally mind doing it because it's basic data entry, which I'm very good at and I can complete 3 or 4 (depending) per minute, which makes the pay a tiny bit more lucrative (for me). If you're that fast, it may be worth it for you.

It's all well and good to say "oh, get some worthy batches", but let's face it - a LOT of the good-paying batches are snatched up VERY quickly, some so fast that others don't even know what happened. There is nothing wrong with doing Oscars to get your numbers up - certainly I had to, to start with. And after 4 days, there just isn't that much that's open to you right away - let's get real.

I started with Oscars, Ignite Media Solutions short transcription (worth it, but they're slow to pay), HubPages, and lots of surveys. You'll eventually work up to good batches and better quals. If you like to write, I'd try to get Crowdsource Top Tier Writing (it's really not that hard). Or try CastingWords or SpeechInk if you like transcription - that's really where all of the "good" money is on mTurk.

Please don't waste your time on Oscar Smith HITs. Try ClariTrans, the only qualification you need is you have to accept their non-disclosure agreement. All you have to do is transcribe short (~30 second) clips of audio. You can also type in "study" or "survey" in the search box and click the "for which you are qualified" box. Most surveys/studies are short and they pay pretty well.

Is being slow to pay really that bad a thing?

I don't care personally if they're slow - I don't depend on this for anything but "mad" money.

But others do care, which is why I mention the response times. Wouldn't you want your money as soon as possible? I'm giving the folks that consider it important a heads-up, that's all. They can do the work or not, their choice.

Claritrans don't have enough hits to do. This finding hits is very tough on my willingness to continue using mTurk. I'm good at transcribing audio and writing, but I find 6 hours of my turking time is searching and 1 hour actually doing something hafl, keyword is half, worth it.

Those tagasarus take so long to complete if you factor in the refresh for each new page.

You can always browse the "Cant find good hits" thread..you will find many hits being posted there..Quite a few batches require you to have 1000+,5000+,10000+,masters..But the surveys mostly don require so much..You can always do them..and some occasional batches..Inbetween you can do the oscars, venue to raise your numbers..

Like most of these guys said, doing Oscar Smith work is like working in a field of slaves at the pay rate he pays. Why does he not raise it? Why does he need to? Newbies are always doing his work because he instantly approves them, and never rejects. Thus, yes for a newbie his work is decent for building up your stats. Obviously you want to keep your stats at the best percentage possible. You mostly want to watch your approval rating, and your rejected hits. Try to keep rejected hits to a minimum. Zero if at all possible. To many rejections or blocks from requesters will get you booted from Mturk. Like someone mentioned above, once you start getting to for example say; 5,000 hits approved, 10,000 hits approved, even 1,000 hits approved, you will start to see a lot more nicer jobs open up. In the mean time while building up your stats I highly disagree with what some of these people said as far as starting with ClariTrans. If you want to build up your stats, and not risk rejections, and make a little more then Oscar Smith start with Redwood. His transcriptions are 10 seconds long at .03 per hit vs Oscars cards that are .02 cents and take a minute or two depending how fast you are. Until you get 10,000 + hits built up, this is what we call a (cushion), then I recommend you sticking to Redwood, CrowdFlower, CrowdSource, Oscar Smith, and there's a few others. Your first 10,000 hits is still a learning phase anyway. You will learn more and more tips and tricks as you go all the way up to 100,000 plus hits. It seems like everyday you can learn something new on here. New tips, New tricks, New tools, etc. After you get 5,000 hits built up, pm me and I'll send you a whole list of great requesters. Some that you can make $100. - $200.00 a day with. You can add them to your turk alert, and then get emails and text messages as soon as they post work. Hope I could help you.

THE ONLY REASON WHY I DO OSCAR SMITH HITS IS BECAUSE I GOT A MASS REJECTION FROM TAGASARIUS. Whatever his name is. I need to do oscar smith hits just to get my approval rate back up to 99 percent. Right now I am at 88%. I am sure in a couple of weeks I will be at 99 percent.
