Have any of you tried their Video Transcription and Tagging HITs? I'm thinking about taking the qualification test, but I'm wondering just how time consuming these are and whether they're worth it.

I haven't tried for the qualification yet because the crappy laptop, but I'll try any qualification test for them once I'm able. The test would be a good test run at the very least.

I was looking at the instructions for those HITs and it just seems like a lot of work. I also have an old crappy computer, and I wonder if adding even more software would just kill it. o_O

If I do get a chance to try those HITs, I'll post here again with an update.

I requested for the qualification test but as soon as I looked at it, I thought to myself okay I can save this for a weekend when there are absolutely no hits available. Well, that day has come and I still don't want to do it. It just seemed like so much stuff you have to do and since I just started I think doing all that already would be a bit much for me right now. I also saw that the time allotted for the hit to be complete is a week. So it must be a lot of work to do. Are any of you guys familiar with time stamping? Is it hard? I seen a few hits a couple days ago where they were asking you to put in the time stamps every 10 seconds I believe it was.

Nobody, I'm going to treat this thread like the cw one, if that's ok?

SpeechInk has some GREAT audio up (except for guys talking over each other) if you qualify. I can't do jobs where the audio is longer than about 2.5 minutes and these 4 to 7 minutes long. Qualification score has to be 89 or 92 for these. There's also some verbatim HITs up.

Haven't done any of their work in weeks but was happy to see they've got a lot of stuff up, just in case.

I'm so glad you did. I was beginning to think I was the only one doing them. I alternate between them and CW.

Until a couple of weeks ago, I was finding tons of work from them every day. Most of the audio was either speakers with accents or fast talkers, but once you get the style guide down, you can get really fast regardless. I haven't done any for them in the past two weeks though. It's hard for me to switch back and forth between style guides because I'll use CW's stuff for theirs and vice versa.

I'll probably switch back to them if/when CW dries up again, that is if I can't find any writing HITs.

I've been wanting to try some of the Speechink verbatim jobs, not really sure I'm comfortable enough with it yet though. To this point the only transcribing I've done, aside from one great $2.00 hit from a random requester, are the SpeechInk Home Inspection ones. Those are really easy though because there is only one speaker, and I get to clean things up since it is non-verbatim. Also they are quick 10-45 second clips which simplifies things.

Are you having issues with crap editing on your Home Inspection HITS Chaos? I keep getting marked down because people somehow don't realise it's non-verbatim, despite the double warning box telling you it is, and also the UK English rule seems to stump editors too.

UK English = grey not gray, colour not color, panelled not paneled, discolour not discolor etc etc etc. When I am reviewing I am spending all my time correcting these only to find some one else has reviewed mine and changed them to US! Makes me pretty frustrated.

I haven't had any issues with editing, at this point I think I've probably done 15-20 of the transcriptions and my rating is still at 98.Hopefully it stays that way.

Tons of Home Inspection transcriptions/review posted today. I managed to make about $10 after I got home from work at $5, about $9 of that was SpeechInk. Very nice surprise, I don't expect to make much Monday-Friday anymore now that I'm at the office those days. Thank you SpeechInk.

did anyone here ever taking the test for video tagging?

is learning all of that worth doing the test - the accuracy rate required is incredibly high and things are very strictly ruled - but the gosh darn rates seem really good. would an hour video be done in a few hours?

It just depends on how fast you type and if you've got a video player that you can start and stop using hotkeys or a foot pedal, which I don't think express scribe does or at least the version I have doesn't. I can do one hour of audio in three hours, but I haven't done one of these yet for them but the rates seem a bit low to me. If it's not at least .50 per audio minute, I tend to pass on it, but that's just me :)

yeah, when i break it down by audio minute it's about .40...and that seems really good until i think of all the formatting issues/rules that go with the video tagging for those HITs. It's not just speaker tokens.

I think I'll pass for a while longer.

Anyone more experienced with the home inspection transcripts, should we hyphenate right-hand and left-hand side?

That's how I've been doing it, but a few times it's been corrected to right hand, and today while reviewing, I noticed other people leave out the hyphen. I put it in, but now I'm having second thoughts about it.

The insurance style guide says to hyphenate, but the inspection guide doesn't seem to mention it.

    Thanks!

I leave it in when I review. The few corrections I have made is when people don't capitalize brand names, or "A working glock on the wall" changing glock to clock :)

I always put in the hyphen for left-hand, right-hand.. that is how it's supposed to be and I've yet to have it corrected. I have had very silly stuff that is clearly in the style guide corrected [my favorite was the 21, 4, whatever - the grader went thru and changed them all to spelled out numbers] but when that happened I quickly sent them a message thru the hit in my dashboard and got it corrected.

Thanks Scott and Turkalicious. I'll follow your lead and hyphenate those words.

@Scott. I did one completely wrong where I thought they were reading a list of action figures on a shelf or something. The audio said Picasso, flamingo, penguin, sausage dog.
I found out that Flamingo Penguin Sausage Dog is a title to one of his artworks.

I'm getting rather irritated, because I submitted a video transcription and tagging hit via e-mail, per her instructions, to Priscilla almost a month ago, and she still hasn't told me how to get paid. I've called the phone number she gave me, and it sends me straight to voicemail every time. It's made me very skittish about accepting SpeechInk hits at all. Does anyone know if there's a supervisor above Priscilla that I can get a straight answer out of?
