Trust me Bertha, I didn't take it personally. I don't take much personally. You weren't rude and I was just curious.
I jumped the gun earlier. I posted my opinion without reading all the post, but the feeling is the same, thanks but NO.
I wouldn't mind an OT subforums, but I enjoy the minimalism and simplicity of this site. It get's straight to the point without 10,000 how-to pages and rules.
I already waste too much time here when I should be sucking up HITs. I think an OT section would make that worse for me. I vote for no. The nice thing about this forum is it's mainly MT talk but if I ramble off topic (which happens a lot) no-one jumps down my throat or moves my post and as I am aware of being bad for going OT I usually drag myself back round. This is a friendly, welcoming place and if it's not broke there's no need to fix it IMO.
It seems to me since we have gotten an increase in people posting (in the last week especially) that there seems to be a lot of random crap being posted in the mturk forum. At least if Andy gave a special place, it would be out of the way of the things most of us are interested in!
Hey guys, Thanks for all of the feedback and comments. Mturk forum will remain an mturk forum. The goal of this site is to help you guys earn more money, and if you all are discussing OT things, then the site is not making you as productive as it could be. As for the chat- i've seen all too many times chat/shoutbox causing forum inactivity. Hopefully you guys are okay with my stance on this.
First, I think you're an awesome Admin. Seriously. But what about at least a subforum for other WAH legit ways to make money?
And also, turking is *lonely*. Fellow workers becoming friends/coworkers on turk/here was my idea for an Everything Else subforum. We ARE coworkers. We are friends. We work together and help one another. We should be able to hang out!
I won't touch referral links. Don't post them, don't click them. I'm just talking about conversations regarding super-legit work online.
Admins always have to make decisions regarding category additions, and regardless if something is changed/not changed feelings are hurt, feedback may seem rejected, people may be unhappy. My feeling is this - at the end of the day this is mturk forum. Adding a 'work from home' forum takes away from that topic. Essentially a distraction from helping you focus on earning more on mturk. If this was a 'earn money online' site then it would make total sense - but due to the specificity of the forum, and in terms of overall organization, I prefer to not have the section. Also, I think more valuable info can be found elsewhere on other work at home sites (since we are not entirely dedicated to that one topic). If we can't "own the category" in terms of bredth/depth of info I say we stand clear of it. I want to help you guys earn more on mturk and increase your focus w/o distraction.
Ok, Andy. I disagree about if a small subforum would hurt the overall purpose and theme of this place, but it's your forum to do with as you like.
