Yeah I did too at the time, its definitely not the most disturbing movie out there though. Maybe Human Centipede, Bone Tomahawk, I Spit on Your Grave, or more recently, Landmine Goes Click was REALLY dark Must add Hostel to this list I guess
I swear that at one point in his life, my dad looked EXACTLY like Matthew McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club. In this picture, if you took off the cowboy hat, it would be like my dad's twin throughout the mid to late 80s. When I saw that movie I almost peed myself. Oh, but his mouth was a bit different. Maybe because I never remember my dad not smiling, laughing or smirking because he'd just said some smart ass comment or cracked a joke.
I have not (and will not) see any of those. I have heard about Human Centipede. I guess Requiem really bothered me because, if I recall correctly, I really was not expecting it to be as disturbing as it was so it really caught me off guard
I would not advise watching it until you can think of the most disgusting scenario ever created and not just in a violent way.
Not really a fan of being disgusting for disgusting' sake. More of a fan of movies that fuck with your head a bit like The Shining. Yes, I'm old.
I would highly recommend watching some YouTube reviews of the movie first I couldn't even get threw the review of the movie, made me fell sick and closed it and never want to even think about watching.
Totally agree. There are some cases where shock value enhances the movie, like in Silence of the Lambs, but all too often I feel like writers use it when they're lazy and lack imagination.
In re Salo (per Wikipedia) "Vincent Canby of The New York Times wrote, "Salo is, I think, a perfect example of the kind of material that, theoretically, anyway, can be acceptable on paper but becomes so repugnant when visualized on the screen that it further dehumanizes the human spirit, which is supposed to be the artist's concern."
Its notoriety is largely due to its being censored. The content of the film isn't what keeps it on top of so many critics' lists - it was the response to that content. It was only un-banned in the U.K. in 2000. That's pretty insane given what type of films are being made today.
Good night all. I am now going to watch a couple of kitten videos to sanitize my mind's eye so that I can sleep. Hope you make some money tonight
I saw the original Nightmare on Elm Street in my early teens. Not the parodies that the later films became. That one stuck with me for awhile.
