Quick story: My mom went for a visit to Japan in the early to mid 70's. My father wanted her to buy a calculator while she was there. It was huge, cost hundreds of dollars, and probably did what a little $1 one does today.

I was still older than 8.
Unless going on to chat rooms with my dad's Commodore 64 in the 1980s counts. Never mind, I was still older than 8.
I was in high school when the math and science classes transitioned from slide rules to calculators.
In college all students were required to take a programming class on on one of the "mini computers".
Didn't think much about computers again until the early 1990's when I got my first portable word processor.
Bought my first PC in 1994, went online in 1998. Got a CIS certification from community college taking mostly online classes.
Looking back on it, it's pretty amazing that today, for a hundred bucks, you can buy a computer that fits in your pocket and can connect you with anyone in the world as well as to the combined knowledge of thousands of libraries...
And we use them to watch cat videos and talk trash to each other in forums.

It's absolutely just you. I didn't know anything about downloading binary files from alt-dot newsgroups. Nosiree, nothing about that at all.
