For someone who claims to be about that poker life you sure don't know shit about adapting to new situations. I'm guessing you are really bad at poker, and probably not very good at mTurk either.
For someone who claims to be smarter then everyone else you sure have trouble following what I am saying. You are playing the role of that contractor in the scenario. You're basically pretending that it takes longer so that you can gain a higher wage. Don't sit there are pretend this hasn't been done on batches that were still a fair $9.00 an hour. I lurked long before this and saw batches that were at that range go up because the requester felt people were doing more work. That's called scamming period. If that's not the case correct me, but it's clear it is because why else would you care how long it takes? the requester set the wage already. If they lower it and people don't do it they will either raise it back up or leave, that's the life of a contractor in a free market society. We have the right to refuse a wage.
Have we played or something? How'd poker get involved lol, when have I ever claimed to be about that poker life (I happen to be awesome at poker and mturk though)
Hold on guys, working out of your queue is not "scamming". Amazon allows queueing --- up to 25 hits...and it automatically sends you the one that's going to expire first. That's all Adam is talking about when he says "time cooking" -- working out of your queue. And if that sends a misleading message/effective wage or whatever, that's not our problem! Just look at it that way if your conscience feels bad!
The point is your example was of a laborer faking work, there is no work being faked, the requester still spends the exact same amount of dollars and a fair wage is protected because many have been warped into thinking underpaying is the norm because of the excessive supply of workers (so if they found out the true wage they unfairly lower it, get it?)
Of course, which is why you conveniently left out the part where I said "If the requester lowers the wage we as contractors can refuse to do the work". You want people to cook timers so that the requester never adjust the wage. It's the same thing contractors do with lower wages to gain higher pay. They lower the wage to get higher return then spend more time hoping to get more money in the long run. That is exactly what you are suggesting. You're telling people to cook timers so pay goes up and doesn't drop. Again, if they refuse to pay a fair wage for good work don't work for them, it's that simple. Scamming them by presenting a false time makes you no better IMO.
This is the exact (bad) reasoning that Jon Brelig has told me to my face (turkers can choose not to work my stree....er, do my receipts) (he is a mutual connection in my circle) I am saying cook and pay doesn't go down if it's a fair wage that they are oblivious to being fair

I just got a Cobb pic of an exposed dick with a square around it. When they say ALL heads, they mean it.
You are assuming they will lower pay after getting good work that is at fair pay. I hate to break it to you, but there is always someone who will do just as good a job as you for less money. It's called competing with one another. It's why the Internet is a tough place to compete in. You have millions of people that sell the same crap. You are suggesting that people lie about the time they spent. What part of this don't you get? I know you like to pretend it's not scamming, but lying is scamming. If the requester feels they need to lower pay, don't work for them. This is the same reason requesters don't believe surveys take as long as people claim they do, because of cooking timers. But I guess you don't care about that negative effect. Don't be a hypocrite and say "Don't lie on surveys", but then tell people to lie about the time they spent. If you think requesters haven't figured this out yet you would be wrong.
