I use the packets, with garlic and ground cayenne and basil and nutritional yeast. I would use white pepper if I had it but I don't and I always forget to tell the gods of Amazon Prime that I desire it.

i love basil but i never buy it because I fear not being able to use it all before it wilts. i used to make similar excuses about avocados but someone clued me into the idea of a refrigerator and my salad world has gotten a whole lot tastier because of it.

grow a plant inside. Super easy to do, grows in a windowsill, smells nice. They're incredibly difficult to kill. You need to regularly prune/slash it up, but that's necessary for high quality basil anyway. An indoor plant shouldn't be more than a foot tall, it'll fit anywhere, and the range of temperatures is about the same as humans find acceptable for staying alive.
