My dad took it pretty hard (it was his father), and a few of my aunts and uncles, but not too bad. He had been deteriorating for a year or so with alzheimers/dementia/some mental disorder. I saw him last in October, and he basically said he wanted to die. His words were "No one should have to live like this." Sucks to have him gone, but I'd rather him be gone than have to suffer through that. He kept having memories of being in the war (not like war flashbacks, but of who he was), and it was frustrating to see him confused as to why he couldn't stand up or go to the bathroom or anything.

Alzheimers/dementia is a bitch. Lost my uncle (mom's brother) to Alzheimers over the summer. I don't live nearby so I didn't see him deteriorate (my family said it was heartbreaking). Sometimes death isn't the worst thing that can happen. I'm sorry for your loss.
