I got three wisdom teeth out in October. I had a normal one on my bottom left and two on my bottom right (strange right?) The third one was under my molars and they had to cut from under my tongue to get it out without damaging my other nerves. I also found out I was allergic to dissolvable stitches that day and had to get 20 real ones.

My insurance covered it all because they were impacted and causing problems with my jaw, but I got a copy of what was billed and it was $200 per tooth and $350 for the third badly placed one. I also only got local anesthetic which was better for me than being put under (also its cheaper if you're paying!) because general anesthesia is a trigger for my asthma.

No insurance here. I've got a cleaning/xray/exam on the 14th of jan, and then they're gonna refer me to a surgeon. My googlefu tells me it'll be $2,500 max, but I'm worried. I'm pretty sure they're not impacted, but shitty hygiene + small mouth = crumbling away.

Edit: What was the experience like? How bad was the procedure and the healing after?

I'm pissed and have been throwing tantrums about wisdom teeth and my lack of insurance for months but you guys remind me I need to put on my big boy pants about it :(

I haven't even Googled because I just wish they'd go away on their own or I'd wake up and have coverage somehow.

jesus, where do you live? that's what I've been told for like, all 6 (I'm pretty sure it's 6, don't ask why it's gross) of mine. Small mouth also, yes, I hear this feel.

three out of the five people I talked to about it concur that throwing up is common

I know the feeling! My two are super sensitive, and I can't even brush near them. They've been messed up for years, but I finally did the math a few weeks ago and realized I could make enough through mturk to get them pulled in 6 months or less. At least 10$ a day. Also, check out CareCredit. I can't get it because of no income, but it might help to finance, if you can get it.

I'll just talk about my other two being removed. I have an extremely small mouth so it's usually always a problem with dentists. After local, it took about 30 seconds to pull my left one. It came out in one piece. My right one took about five minutes, it broke and I saw it in multiple pieces. Stitches were nothing. I didn't feel anything until I got home. The local wore off and I wasn't given any type of pain medicine other than Tylenol. I have a high pain tolerance as well. I remember crying because I wanted to sleep but couldn't get comfortable because I was sore. The second and third day were the worst for me, I was swollen and could barely open my mouth or speak. After that every day was easier. I didn't eat normal food for two weeks.

I would do it over again in a heartbeat. I know I healed slower and was more sensitive because of that third tooth that was a pain to find and get out. If I had just taken out my normal two impacted ones, I would of been back on my feet within 5 days I'm sure.

Edit: I did throw up because I felt really sick. I wasn't on Vicodin (usual culprit for the upset stomach) I think I was just upset and I freaked myself out too much. If I had Vicodin I think I would of taken the entire thing a lot better. No pain meds suck.

Kansas, but I haven't actually gotten a quote yet. I'm overestimating to be on the safe side, plus combining the cost of my first cleaning/xray/exam.

Going to be 30 soon with all of my wisdom teeth in because f dentists that try to pull them when they don't need to be pulled. Lucky for me they are not impacted but I feel for you guys, have had many other teeth problems. Expensive with or without insurance, it sucks most of the time at a dentist.

My last visit involved a root canal treatment in which they damaged the crap out of my lip and I am now scarred for life because of it.

going to be 35 shortly, and have read horror stories about how much worse it is to recover from that stuff when you're not 18, too. I'm basically not going to get the teeth out until I can go home and have my mom to help deal with whatever abject grossnossity that's likely to ensue, unless I absolutely have to. I'm that scared. :D

My best advice, if you are experiencing pain is to make absolutely sure it is your wisdom teeth causing it. Several dentists told me it was my wisdom teeth blah blah, but finally figured out it was another tooth on that side causing the pain. After getting RCT on that tooth pain was gone. Would have wasted a crap load of money on my wisdom teeth and still have been in pain afterwards if I took the first 2 dentists advice.

Anyways, i'm not getting mine removed unless I turn to rich or have obsessive pain down the road from them. I don't even feel them anymore. Have other teeth to get fixed before then anyways.

I finally found a dentist through insurance (have dental coverage but finding someone taking new patients with it is another story) after 8 years of living in Wisconsin. So I go in and they want to take out the top two wisdom teeth. I thought I had a broken molar, but it was actually a broken wisdom. So I made an appt to go in and get both top ones pulled out in office. I was scared out of my freaking mind. I cried in the chair I was so nervous. And I didn't like their attitude either like "What are you so worried about?"

Well #1... numbing stuff doesn't work on me. It would take 6 shots of Novocain when getting fillings and I could still feel it so I would always just suck it up and deal with it. And they were telling me that they were going to just pull them... with lidocaine? And I was to trust I wouldn't feel it?

She started with the non broken one first and she yanked on my tooth for twenty minutes before it finally came out. And I could feel it. The lidocaine didn't totally work. She was yanking so hard that she tore my cheek :( What I learned was that she should have broken my tooth to get it out in pieces. She decided that she wasn't going to get the broken one out that day since my mouth had been through enough.

I left the office and called and canceled my next appt. I said I wanted a referral to an oral surgeon for the rest. I wasn't going through that in office again. It was horrible.

This was in May. I never heard about my referral. I need to call and get that taken care of because it's horrible having half a tooth in your mouth. Not exactly good for you either.

I used to get abscesses when they would try to come through every few months. I wish I just did it when I was younger and had Tricare. lol

Apologize ahead of time if you see a crap video of mine at some point! But thanks I appreciate it, making videos is a ton of fun when I have the motivation and ideas to do it on.
