I followed the linux mint website. I was just too afraid I was going to break something so I was kind of freaking out the whole time. I will see if I can find the link though.
So you didn't install it yet right? was going through the install when you ran into problems? Should be able to just reboot and start the install over. what did the error messages say if you remember?
http://www.linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=204 is what I downloaded using the mirror from university of okalahoma I believe. I tried running it again and I get a bunch of errors about like usb error and other errors. It flashes so fast I can't really tell what it is saying. Then goes to a blank screen. Now... I suppose I could have a bad copy because I used a DVD-R that has been around for a bit and was a little scratched up.
I always use a USB to install if I have one laying around. much faster and no chance of having a scratch somewhere
I am trying to do the original boot off the DVD so I can get to the install screen. I have never done this before so I could be totally having a noob moment. It acts like it is going to work but it won't let me get to the linux desktop to do anything. When I rebooted before and when back into the bios it changed the boot order to UEFI boot instead of the DVD rom.
Yeah all of ours have seen better days. As in back when we were in college like 7ish+ years ago. Some look like they have taken a soda bath. I might have to go buy a cheap USB if I can't get it to work.
not sure why it would change the boot order. change it manually to cd first. I haven't installed linux in a while so I'm not sure where you are having problems at exactly
Yeah I changed it back and tried again and got the same error. I found something on youtube saying that mint doesn't support UEFI and to turn off the secure boot . Does that sound worth a try?

Secure boot should be under the BIOS settings of whatever you're using. I had to turn off mine to install TAILS using an USB.
It doesn't appear your BIOS has secure boot, so that's not the issue. I'd start again with a re-download and another burn.
I checked the motherboard manual, there's no secure boot settings. The motherboard dates from 2013, so it has a UEFI BIOS but it predates secure boot.
Yeah. May try that. I will probably look up the error codes it was throwing and see what I can find out about that too. I wonder if it is my hardware that it is not agreeing with?
$35.95. Pretty awful day. and $10 of that might be rejected Hopefully we get a surprisingly good sunday
