If the PC's come with the RAM sticks and CPU's think about getting the e-scrap (gold) instead of trying to sell the computer if its really old
I do all of my sales on Amazon for books. I scan them into inventory, box them up and ship them to their warehouse and don't mess with them ever again. Sit back and collect a check. Issue is, getting them in bulk. I have been trying to find a worthwhile source and it has been quite difficult. Until now.
I would be buying them for about $10 to $15 a PC hopefully. I figured I can sell off the windows key code and get most of that back at least. would it be more profitable to just recover the gold myself if I learned how to do it?
Yeah, the last PC I bought, I sold everything on it, case, MOBO, ram, processor, power supply. Just no HD. Made $45 on it. Even if I just fix them up, replace windows on it and sell them through CL, I figure I can make some dough.

definitely can. If you get any old CPU's those are worth the most. Not only do they have the most gold but some people like to collect them and go for pretty good on ebay Intel Pentium Pro's are what you want if you are selling for gold
Ah that's a sweet deal then. I used to flip a decent amount of books and the one salvation army I went to was good. Had a deal where you could fill a bag with mostly anything for $5 dollars. I started cleaning out any book that was valuable and they eventually changed their policy and starting pricing books based upon original MSRP. Needless to say they're shelves were almost always full. Ebay is decent sourcing for pricing but I try to stick to Sold Listings if I want a realistic price. There are lots of compilers that pull from many sites but often with books you can find ridiculous outlier pricing that makes you think it's way more valuable than it really is. This is one of my more reliable sites but again, I usually double check if I get an unusually high price or only one listing. https://www.vialibri.net/
Yeah FBA is an option for scale for sure. None of the books I sell have barcodes though haha so FBA is not something I really mess with for them. I used to be the primary person hunting for the books but now I have a friend who does Estate buyouts and gives me the books to sell.
Star Killer streaming force unleashed on Twitch is possible the most meta thing I've ever seen, but it's cool as hell bc they are doing a dev commentary series! http://www.twitch.tv/samwitwer
Hell, would it be possible to do a business where you pick up people's old computers for "disposal"? I know a lot of times people don't even know what to do with their old electronics.
Yeah, FBA has been amazing for me so far. It still surprises me what some people will pay for things. But, hey, as long as they are happy with their purchase, I am happy with their money. Thanks for the tip! I considered learning how to chemically separate the gold from the chips, but I don't know if the cost of chemicals for me would be worth it. Or would it be more worth it to just to sell the chips to a scrapper and make money that way.
Yeah, that was what I was considering. Just selling them out as personal computers. Then again, depending the age, I could make more scrapping them. Hard to tell yet.
Just collect the gold parts and sell them on ebay. with the ram chips you just cut the ends off (the connectors) and collect and sell them on ebay...they call em "gold fingers"
Out of curiosity, I googled Computer Recycling to see what there is my area. The city of Philadelphia (where I live) links to this website http://www.desktopdisposal.com/contact.php It appears as though they charge for recycling? Which is f'in ridiculous. Not to mention this site looks like complete ass. If there is money in recycling you might be able to get in fairly easily if this is the crap competition.
I just discovered something kind of interesting I'd like to share with you all: Remember the Kenta Hirai HITs? Well, his site (Tabelog, the one we all wrote reviews for) is actually featured on the sidebar on Yahoo! Japan (the Japanese version of the site, at least). I thought that was pretty cool because I was like "hey, I wrote reviews for that once upon a time". It seems he is doing pretty well!
we have a e-scrap recycling place around here and you get paid just like a regular scrap yard but you have to have alot of stuff (hundreds/thousands of pounds) before they will even give you a quote
