I've always assumed they mostly are done by (1) people in India, (2) the very new (I checked my database, I did exactly one Brelig during my first week) and (3) the desperate (and not too smart, even if you are desperate, you can do better. 411Richmond, say.) Anyhow, I was curious, wikipedia says minimum wage in India "from 150 rupees ($2.40) per day in Bihar to 361 rupees ($5.80) per day in Delhi." I guess that is doable with Brelig, even if you are more-or-less copying numbers and letters by rote because your English is weak, and get a bunch rejected. Of course that assumes you have computer and internet access... Put that way, I suppose what he pays doesn't seem quite so abusive. Or rather no more abusive than other companies that outsource to India, etc. It is just that we actually get to see what Brelig pays every day -- on the front page. And dear god, I need a batch or something. I actually just spent time looking up the minimum wage in India.
