Ew, morning classes and an hour drive to campus. I'm very fortunate; campus is only about a 10 minute drive from where I live, but I would still prefer it if all my classes were online. I am not looking forward to Calculus II and Physics with Calculus in the morning.

Insomnia totally sucks. I know exactly what it's like to lie awake for hours on end when you have to be up early, and I don't function very well on little sleep, either.

I have chronic insomnia and am narcoleptic which is an interesting combination. I slept from 8am - 6pm today. I wish I could be completely nocturnal but stuff is closed at night and I have afternoon classes.

Sometimes I have to stay up really late because I can't get my transcription done when the cat decides she wants to live inside the wall behind the bathtub. This is relevant to mTurk because when I have a fatal heart attack, she'll have to figure out my password and make money to buy her own stupid cat food.

I am new to this, too. I have been doing it for about a week. I suggest you install some scripts to help you. Probably the most important is one called TO which lets you view ratings for requesters as if you go into things totally blind you are likely to get scammed (not paid for your work) or rejected unfairly.

There is lots of good advice on scripts here as well.

At first it's kind of overwhelming and there's still some things I hear people talk about that I don't understand but in time I hope to learn more.

What stuff has to be open for you to be nocturnal, food sources? You could stockpile on groceries and just cook at night. I ran out of groceries myself but there's a chinese restaurant near me that's open till 1 so I'm ordering delivery in an hour

That's great you live near campus. Very convenient. I respect people who can tackle difficult math and science courses. That material is no joke. I'm taking an intro stats course online and it's nice it's online and everything, but I haven't really learned anything lol. It's mostly just discussion posts and easy quizzes.

My insomnia has improved a lot since I stay up later now. I'm sure it will return once summer classes start. It always does. ;)

Wow, Kara, that sounds like it would make life really difficult. Respect that you are able to go to school with health issues like that.

Sometimes I have wondered if I have narcolepsy as I have some of the symptoms but I've never experienced cataplexy so I have serious doubts. But I have other things like excessive daytime sleepiness, sleep paralysis and hypnagogic hallucinations.

Yeah, it is pretty convenient but I would be so much happier if everything was online. Still, it's close to where I live so I don't have much room to complain.

I was fortunate enough to always have a pretty equal capacity in math and language (it seems like a lot of times people are stronger in one or another) but I am nervous about Calc II and especially Calc III. Calc I (which is single-variable) was easy for me but I have heard scary things about multi-variable calculus and I feel like my math abilities, even though they are quite good, have limits.

I feel "okay" about Physics I with Calc but I am nervous about Physics II with Calc which I will also have to take. Once upon a time in high school physics was the only class that I found to be difficult. I passed and everything but I thought it was really hard, so I'm not looking forward to it on a college level at all.

In my experience some certain online classes are not so much of a "learning experience" as you can easily just coast by and not learn anything due to it being mostly discussion posts and easy quizzes.

I actually really enjoyed it. I never took it in high school (only took up to trigonometry) AND I was returning to school after a long gap (I am in my early 30s) so I was very nervous about it, not having done "real math" in so long.

Before I took the class I basically re-taught myself basic arithmetic through trig in a few weeks (in order to pass a test so I could register directly for Calc I) and then when I tested into Calc I, I did the single-variable calculus module on Khan Academy.

Khan Academy is an awesome place to go to learn something. I learned pretty much everything about Calc I there and then the class itself was cake. I almost took a CLEP test since I learned so much on KA but ended up just taking the actual class instead.

That is true that many people are better at math or English. My test scores would indicate I'm much better with language skills, but I was told my whole life I'd be bad at math, so I never really tried hard. It's always nerve-wracking beginning a class you think will be too challenging, but it usually works out. Online classes can be easy for sure. I noticed online classes are frequently offered for less relevant classes. I'm only taking stats because it applies loosely to my chosen field.

I saw your other post about narcolepsy and I have the same exact symptoms. Have you ever considered partaking in a sleep study?
