Off topic but I really have to know. What do I do about taxes when filing with Mturk. I searched online and it said I would file as an independent contractor and I would need to pay 15.6% of what I make. I've been setting 20% away but if it's 30% like normal I'm going to be fucked. (Adult forum yea swearing okay?)
You only have to pay taxes if you make more than 400 from a single requester not your total from Mturk. If you get a 1099 it will be from the requester not from Mturk. If you haven't made more than 400 from a requester you won't have to pay anything
Awesome don't have to worry about this until next year. Do you still claim it on your taxes? If so I can write off a new computer mouse (RMB is starting to break down)
I think it's against the TOS, and will get you a suspension. On top of that, it's not exactly worth it, because amazon charges $0.005 per free HIT. (That's the minimum fee per HIT.)
There's a thread up, and nobody knows for sure. The safest option is to contact a tax professional and find out. Better safe than sorry.
Not totally true. Say you make 350 from 50 requesters in one year. That's 17500 untaxed dollars. I guarantee if state and federal get a whiff of that they'll want a piece of it. Better safe than sorry you guys. Most ppl that end up getting hosed are the ones who think they're safe.
But Mturk does not send out 1099s. Amazon passes on your tax info to requesters but if you don't go over the 400 threshold you will not get a 1099 and it will not be reported to the IRS.
Incorrect. This changed recently http://mturkforum.com/showthread.php?5300-Tax-information-i-got-from-amazon!&highlight=email Fact of the matter is, you're better off talking to a professional, or looking on the IRS website, than searching through a forum. This thread probably has the most information regarding this, and a helpful link to the IRS site, where you can figure it out based on your situation. http://mturkforum.com/showthread.php?5536-It-s-almost-Tax-Time
I was sitting here talking to my husband because he is always asking me why they have the 0.00 hits. He looked at me as serious as could be and said, "I did one and they never paid me." I about fell to the floor laughing. He then said, "Seriously, it says approved pending payment and I never got paid." All I can say is that I needed a good laugh today.
I think there is a lot of confusion about taxes. I talked to my tax lady and she told me that the $400 thing isn't going to apply. She said as long as I make under $600 per requester I am fine. Since each requester is considered a separate employer. Amazon doesn't pay anyone so they don't count as an employer. I made over $1500 in 45 days so I began to worry. I showed her all the information and she told me I was good because if was from a variety of requester. I figured the best thing to do was to not freak out. I plan on putting back 20% from today on just in case since this is becoming my full time job now.
Guys. My limit is officially up an I'm at around 650 approved. If I put 3-4 hours in during the morning along with some during the rest of the day depending on how busy I am is $20 per day plausible?
Absolutely. It may not happen everyday, but $20 in 3-4 hours is not nearly an impossible figure to reach.
