I remember as a little kid in England having to be stopped from jumping out my second floor bedroom window -- the snow came up to the window sill, it seemed like an entirely reasonable thing to do! I remember my four years in California where it never dropped below 40 degrees. NC is a very nice compromise.
I lived right off of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario for most of my life so I know all about lake effect snow.
