Tried that. Didn't do a thing for my fruit fly problem I had few years ago. They acted like it didn't exist. Took me a long time to get rid of them.
Worked pretty good for me. I put about 1 1/2 inches vinegar, a bit of water and a drip of dish soap in a glass and set it where they were flocking. The dish soap acts as a surface tension breaker. Otherwise the insects just walk across the water and never sink. This is a drowning pool for flies. You have to keep them from flying off...Also you have to locate where they are breeding to really stop them. They have a 48 hour life cycle, too, so sometimes it becomes a matter of waiting them out. I've got one flitting about me now. I think it came in the old air conditioner I just turned on. Can't win over the insects. They are meek and etc, etc.
If you have a Trader Joe's close by, I highly recommend Bellini that they sell. It's nice and light summer drink and not too sweet. When it's so hot, don't feel like drinking anything too heavy.

I did buy a bottle because it's supposed to be so good for the health. The taste can certainly raise the dead.
