Anyone play minecraft or know anything about it? Do I need to buy a game somewhere or is it all just go to a site and pay for it like a subscription. One kiddo wants it for her birthday. We're gonna get her a chromebook. Can she do something like minecraft on it?
It's a pretty resource intensive game because Java, more on the CPU than GPU end unless you start going crazy with shaders. If you can run Java on the Chromebook and it has decent processing power and memory you should be okay.
I will say this... even my desktop gets bogged the eff down when Jonas loads up Minecraft. He plays on my macbook too but it just messes up. I expected it to be better on my newer desktop but it just gets laggy. I hear it's just ridiculously intensive so I'm not sure how it will run on the chromebook. But you purchase it on the website and download it.
No you can't run Minecraft on a chromebook lol at least not without additional software like Ubuntu or something on your chromebook to run it
If you or your son (or anyone around) can install mods, there are a few that will help it run better, Optifine being the best. BetterFPS and something with a similar name (which I forgot) are also pretty good. Optifine is actually such a good optimization of the graphics rendering that Mojang, the Minecraft publisher, wanted to add it to the base game but the author of the mod was like, no.
Can't they dig shit up from years ago like AH HAAA WE GOTCHOOO ASS pay us that $24.92 you owe us muthafucka?
Pretty much. I haven't had one for about a year but I had to install wine to get a lot of the apps I liked on mine. Come to think of it minecraft might work on wine I am not sure though.

The short answer is that Minecraft will not run a Chromebook because Google Chrome does not allow 3rd party plugins to run at all, there is no Java. The PC version costs $26 and you need a high end computer to run it well. There are a ton of console versions, those would be good. There's also a mobile version, Minecraft Pocket Edition that has most of the features of the PC version, so if you want to grab something like a tablet, you could easily buy it from Google play or Amazon's web thing for a lot cheaper. I think a lot of kids have it on their phones and stuff anyways, so they could multiplayer that way.
Oh. I know nothing about any of that stuff, but i can learn. he has done modding but I don't know if he can do that. I'll look into it though, had no idea you could do mods to do stuff like that. Thank you! It frustrates him greatly to log into do his Learn to Mod course but then he can't even do much because it gets all slow :/ edit: Of course I just asked him and he knew exactly what Optifine was and is telling me all about other mods and where to go. haha
