There was an island we used to go to when I lived in Panama. I was wondering the other day if it has internet now.

Cheeseburgers and pizza won't be a problem (although some of the toppings might be decidedly odd). And packaged foods can be ordered online now, so things like peanut butter (an item that many of my friends missed when they traveled internationally in pre-internet days) are much easier to obtain than they used to be.

Actually, just about the only realistic retirement plan I have right now is to move to a country with a low cost of living and live on social security and turking.

Cheeseburgers can be a problem. Unless you want your cheeseburger packed with fillers and deep-fried that is... :) I think peanut butter is becoming more wide-spread.

I have some experience in this area. But you can always do your own cooking.

It's overwhelming. I kind of feel where she's coming from. I've got a shit ton of hobbies/interests and it's just something I've had to get used to, especially when it comes down to picking a skill to take "all the way" to where I can make money with it. I love so many different things that it's really a tough choice, and one I've been struggling with for years. I'm probably the only person on this planet who graduated high school with every intention of becoming a paleontologist, changed my mind at the last minute and wound up a veterinary science major (because animal behaviorist sounded good, too), and wound up with a graphic design degree. And let's not forget the insane college debt from studying media post-production and audio engineering overseas *after* that because #yolo. And that's only a tiny handful of my crazy hair-brained schemes and bizarre ideas. LOL.

Anyway, picking one thing can be damn near impossible for some of us. If she really wants to do a shit ton of stuff, telling her to focus probably isn't going to work. Just let it run its course...she'll try things and do well, or fail, or find new things to try. Eventually she'll figure it out (or drive you completely nuts in the process...whichever happens first!).

I shouldn't have done this again. It didn't say specially not to take it again, and I thought that if I didn't have the qual to block repeats, I'd be okay.

    I got rejected. Saddness.

I was a Peace Corps volunteer in Dassa Zoume, Benin. No phones. No running water. I had a short wave radio with BBC. I hear that now even Dassa has internet. Probably very slow email internet but still, the world is changing.

I feel kind of privileged that I got to spend a long time in a spot that was completely isolated from the news of the world. I often felt like someone just dropped me into a national geographic magazine. There was something really otherworldly about it and time was slower and no one was in a rush. I think that places in the world like this will be much more rare. I had so much time to read and visit with neighbors and just relax. It's so different than my life today.
