Just bought a duplex behind me at the tax sale for $2,600. Guess I should get to Mturking
No matter what it will be interesting for sure. I've been doing this for nearly 8 years now. If I had gotten $500 or more I might consider abandoning this crap like I'm sure some people will do who got a big "bonus" in their accounts this morning. One thing that may happen is they may delay payments even longer after this little snafu would will piss me off and I might consider quitting. One of the few perks on MTurk is that you can get your money in less than 24 hours after requesting it. This might be what also causes Amazon to shut down MTurk or sell it. They really don't need us and I'm shocked that they've continued this platform and not shut it down.
so how much did you guys get overpaid into your bank?
I'm negative $1,350 & that's how much they gave me. Here's my problem with it though. The original ~$350 transaction I wanted to transfer doesn't count towards this amount so its like it just disappeared. I don't have any problem continuing to turk & pay off the negative balance if its accurate but this negative balance isn't.
I'm hoping they figure it out over the weekend and start reversing on monday. Luckily the funds are on a prepay debit card (bluebird) which is what I use for turk funds so I'm not going to touch the money for awhile. I'm expecting them to reverse the transactions. This really blows because I have more funds ready to transfer and I can't do it until they get their shit together.
Is it worth calling them at this point? I'm sure everyone else is blowing up their support lines.
4 minutes, gonna let it cook. Lots of writing.
Yep you are right. They added the original payment to the negative balance which is completely messed up. I bet most people won't notice. So in the end if you pay it all back you will lose whatever amount you originally tried to get out if they don't adjust the balance. I can't believe this has happened. What should really trouble people is did they have the money in whatever fund they use to cover all these extra payments or is amazon so trusted that these payments just automatically get cleared by our banking system? I often wondered since PayPal isn't technically an FDIC insured bank how hard would it be for eBay/paypal to just create money or if you were a programmer for them how hard would it be to make an account for yourself and put whatever amount you wanted to inside there. While I'm sure there are safeguards there's also gotta be people at the very top of the company aware of how to exploit those things.
I'd wait on spending for at least the weekend, this seems to be quite the unique fuck up. They probably don't even know the best way to move forward on this without zeroing out everyone's payment accounts and writing off the over-payments as a bonus.
That's the happy scenario, which is why it probably isn't going to happen. Its going to end up being you can either pay back the overpaid funds back to your amazon payments account with no fees or something, or you can consider it a interest free loan and have to work off the negative balance on your account. My conclusion is as much a shot in the dark as any other though, but what are they gonna do? How many people went hog wild and already spent that money and don't want to get overdraft fees with their bank because of an amazon fuckup? The awful answer is that amazon AND your bank don't really care, they just want to zero this issue out as soon as possible, and let the shrapnel of their fuck up hurt the end users instead of themselves.
Trying to catch up because the conversation crosses days in the forum. People who tried to move money from their Amazon account into their bank had some problems with the balance transferred being wrong? Is the transfer process still broken?
I consider this just another example of late-stage capitalism and how the system is eventually going to cave in on itself. I think most of us on here make far more than most people do on MTurk and even then I consider this a pretty shitty "job" that varies in pay. Most of us don't do HITs that are under 10 cents a minute if we can help it (though we get fooled at times) and that means the low end of our pay is $6/hour and all the wait time where there isn't anything above that to do means that we make less. I can make about what I'd make doing a shitty retail or fast food job on here but I have to sit for 8-12 hours in front of the computer and I end up working 2-4 hours which is my choice but it's far from ideal. But it's exploitation which you know I can't find any job where my labor isn't exploited so here I am. But I'd love to see it all fall and burn to the ground for all these fucks who have millions or billions in their bank accounts but couldn't function in the real world if they had to. Take away all their money and they'd probably kill themselves assuming they would know how to do that. A lot of them really are that useless/stupid.
Oh cool! If you don't mind sharing, how does that work? I keep promising myself to go to a local auction just to see the process, but I never have. How did you find out about it etc? Did they require cash when you won? How did you know how much to bring? How high were you willing to go?
I agree with both of you. I'm ashamed to say I've had bank accounts go into the negative before (yes I was a stupid kid once) for alot more than this amount. Without going into the whole story I've had a checking acct go $9,000 in the hole. Basically they locked the account and put it into "deposits only" and took all the direct deposits going into the account towards the balance. Then they stuck me on the CHEX system so I was banned from having an account with a real bank for 5 years.
The only reason they put it into deposits only is because I had active direct deposits. Otherwise they would've just written off the balance & sold it to a collections agency for pennies on the dollar who then would've stuck it on my credit & came after me for anything they could collect.
My fear now is they leave it negative and just say "well pay it off since you have the money" then that original ~$350 just disappears. Like I said, I'll pay off the negative balance easily if they count the original withdraw amount in it. Right now it's not counting it. That amount has just disappeared.
This is the biggest fuckup I've ever seen since joining in 2013.
Basically we tried to transfer the funds we had in payments and received emails saying it failed. Then over the course of the day as we started hearing people's transfers were successful we kept trying. Some of us tried more than others. Once they fixed their system, all the requests that claimed to fail didn't actually fail & went through to our banks. Now all the money from all the "failed" transfers are in our bank accounts & our payments accounts are negative.
The biggest problem is the original amount that we wanted to transfer doesn't count towards this negative balance in payments. It's just disappeared.
@Mind Dagger I've started watching this show on Discovery called 'undercover billionaire' if you get the chance, it is a hoot to watch. I probably should wait to share until the end, because the way he's going, he is totally gonna fail.
One thing that might go in favor of the workers is how both Amazon and MTurk get a lot of bad press. If Amazon ends up exploiting people for their stupid mistake it's gonna be more bad press and possibly a class action lawsuit. I'm sure they don't want that.
Sure thing. In my county if the property does not have the taxes paid for 3 consecutive terms then it goes to the sale. Starting bid is the amount owed. It was under $1,000 for this particular property. I sell real estate as a profession so I have been to all the sales / get notices about them. They do require you pay in full on day of sale. I just brought a blank check book and knew what I'd comfortably pay. I would have went as high as 8 or 10K for it. My house and carriage house is the next block over. I own the whole block
There's so much stupid shit going on in the world right now. Trump talking about banning China now so the market is headed into the toilet. Did you guys see the Overstock CEO on Fox spilling his guts about how the FBI was trying to coerce him into a political coup with some Russian spy that was trying to infiltrate Trump's campaign?
I've been in the conspiracy rabbit hole for 6-7 years now but holy crap the drama that's going on now is insane.
Just gonna leave this here if you guys get curious.
it's not just for tinfoil hats anymore!
Congrats on that! What country are we talking about?
County, not country, may have typed it wrong. I am in Evansville, Indiana
Whatever happened to the Turker Mansion you were gonna fix up for all of us.
I am living in it. I have enough space for all of us
I never bought into the Russian meddling in our elections and definitely didn't buy into Trump being some kind of Russian agent and loyal to Putin. Clearly Trump is loyal to Israel/Netanyahu and Saudi Arabia. But remember when it turned out Diane Feinstein's driver actually was a Chinese spy and now it turns out all of Hillary Clinton's emailed were CC'd to a Chinese company. Guess what? No one in government gives a shit cause it's all theater. Actual crimes go unpunished and imaginary ones take up all the oxygen in the room and then of course most of the time they go nowhere. I always say that probably there are conspiracies far worse than what we know or think we know is going on.
