So I do a standard blank search and get Crowdsource. I know how to bring up Oscar. I can do a search for "Survey" and "Transcribe". I can search by payment amount, oldest/newest, and Hits available to me, but I can't find the decent ones everybody keeps talking about other than the writing ones.

It is going to be hard for somebody to advise on this topic because we have different understanding of what a good and bad HIT is. My definition of a bad HIT is from a scammy requester or CrowdFlower, Oscar Smith or Redwood and the other transcibers. You seem to have a different opinion than mine. Hardly surprising.

What I have found to be the secret to finding good HITs is to find a good requester and keep doing their HITS. Of course most good requesters don't post very often, so that means using my other trick which is to avoid the bad requesters. I find by sorting my HITs by newly posted first and skipping 5 pages, I can avoid having to look at CrowdFlower, Redwood and Oscar Smith who have some notion that it is important to keep reposting so their results show up on the first pages of workers like me. Not that I complaining - I know where they are likely to appear and how to avoid them. Its surprising how few good HITs I miss from the good requesters because every once in a while I check the first 5 pages and find nothing of interest. Of course during quiet hours, I have to adjust and during those times I might skip 2 pages.

I would consider a scammy requester to be one who rejects for no reason.

I have like 10 different searches all saved as favorites on my toolbar, so I just click them.
