Hubpages just wants an average score so their user created articles move up or down in the popularity spectrum for a specific category. They paid their writers on CPC ads with adsense. Anyone can join their site, write and possibly make money. Having said that, their internal system for all that in addition to their bizarre grading is nothing short of stupid.

I started in Hubpages as it was changing. I started too late. Apparently before, you could pretty much make money with an article that said "blah blah blah, the end." At least you didn't have to take it down. They were starting to become more strict then. And then Google changed it's search algorithm in a way which made Hubpages pretty much invisible in a search, so they freaked out and made it even more strict. I only wrote one article before I was over it.

Maybe they're just testing the waters to see how little people will actually work for. One big social experiment to see how low morale can go, without open feedback or communication, but work is still done.

One day Sheldon's going to be at my door and shout, "Bazinga!"

I was wondering about that. It didn't look like your response fit my post.

for anyone still doing these, looks like they cap you off at 200 HITs per day. I don't know if that's been mentioned elsewhere. I rarely read the "daily" thread.

Huh. That's new; when I was doing them before with the old qual, I was doing 400, 500 a day easy.

I think they've finally tumbled to the fact that some people were making 100+ a day just doing their HITs. With bonuses included, that's a HELL of a lot of money. I was going through a couple of weeks where I was pulling in over 200 dollars A DAY, just doing HP.

I think they've caught on to that.

Yes, in December I was able to do way more than 200 in a day. While I didn't have the gumption (or the qual rating) to get $100+ days, there were many over $50. I think the cap now is at about $45 in a day (if my math isn't wrong - but it usually is).

Sometimes I don't get cut off right at 200, but at the first quarter hour after the 200 where my qual changes - up or down.

    Just had my Qualification Revoked.

The grading system makes no sense. I was getting .45 bonuses regularly for over a week. My quality dropped from 90% to 63% in 2 days. My grading quality did not change. Made no sense.

it takes me DAYS to raise my qual - but today, in a matter of 15 minutes, it went down by 6.

Frustrated and pissed, but will still work on them every day - even if only to try and raise it up again. I'm pretty close to posting to TO about them - even if it is only a few that even work on them.

They'll read in the forums - but they won't post in the forums.
They raise and lower your qual as they see fit - without helpful feedback.
They will respond to an email as to WHY it's been lowered - they won't give credit for the THOUSANDS rated "to their liking".

Your ass is on the line every 10 HITs and every 15 minutes.
I tell myself (and others) that it is a cruel social experiment. I need consistent money and I hate surveys. They're the route to take for now, unfortunately.

I'm sorry you lost your qual. It doesn't make sense. You may wake up on day and you've got it back. I think they have a hard time keeping enough mice in their maze.

This is your performance bonus for rating 10 articles for HubPages. You have received a bonus of $0.27 because your accuracy is approximately 78%.

son of a gun. i'm done. I'd rather write 50-100 word summaries for 5 cents a minute and risk a rejection than watching my qual drop any more.

I'd really thought I had the hang of it as my qual was hitting 190. I was hoping to get it back to at least 194...even though the 197 was nice when it lasted, but it dropped like a rock. Maybe in a month or so I'll go for the self-abuse again.

Yeah, what is UP with these HITs? I loved them at first, then, like everyone else, I had my accuracy rating suddenly drop. I don't think time spent on the HIT has any effect, especially since they now specify in the HIT that it should take 1-2 minutes. (Which is laughable, some of these things are ridiculously long.)

My accuracy is currently back up to 90%, and since they've raised their potential bonus to $2 it's still worth it for me to do these for now. I really love doing them, I feel like a vigilante fighting for worthwhile internet content . . . but I live in fear of my accuracy suddenly dropping again.

I was pretty happy to get their qualification. I started having the same questions then too.

How can you be expected to rate the content just like they would..? Why do they even need us if they already know how to rate the articles in the first place. This sort of thing has me doing the HITS where there is a right and a wrong, and very little to be left to subjectivity, unless they really are asking for my opinion.

And yeah they really DO want the WORLD for a nickle.

I wish they'd go to a [check] box system.
    Make each [yes] or [no]
    Are complete sentences used?
Is the Hub written in broken English?
Are there more than 4 spelling mistakes?
    Are headings used?
Are headings supported by the content?
Does the content support the title?
Is the title clear and specific (as opposed to vague)?
Does the media enhance the content?
Does the media encourage user engagement?
    Is the content attractive?

You know, shit like that. That is concrete. Okay, so the media thing could be a little subjective, but at least it is rated separately from the other substance stuff. Same with attractiveness of content - but at least then I could mark for good media but UGLY content because they've decided to bold, italicize and underline every damn thing. And don't have people rating creative writing. C'mon now.

Then drop the bonus. Make each hit at least 50 cents so I don't feel bad taking 3 minutes to read it, giving 2 minutes for filling out any number of questions - To Make $6/hour
    bah

Brilliant ideas -- I could not agree more! Maybe you should email them. Aren't they kind of new? Maybe they'll change their system.

I would except I couldn't do it without telling them to suck it. I don't need a block on my account.

They are new, but they aren't stupid.

See how there is now a $5 bonus if you pass the initial test?
And how they've now limited the number of HITs you can complete in a day?
They've upped their bonus from $1.75 to $2.
They haven't improved their feedback system.
They don't participate in open forums (here or CMB - have no idea about TN) but from a post earlier in this thread, they're perfectly aware workers are talking about them and need information.

I'm still pretty pissed about having a rating below 180 after doing thousands (no, really, thousands) of their HITs.

On the flip side of how much mturk can suck vs not suck: I can write 20-30 words for CrowdSource for $2. It takes me less than 10 minutes. As opposed to
Read article > sweat grading it > get .05 -- for 2-4 minutes of work
    Repeat 10 times
Get notified I SUCK AT RATING and my Qual rating has gone down AGAIN -- end up working for 80 cents every 15 minutes.

    :)
    yay

Ugh. Well, at least you can write! I have some sort of weird chronic writer's block, even with emails and forum posts! I end up reading everything over twelve times before sending it off. I haven't even tried to get the CrowdSource writing qual because I would never be able to finish anything quickly enough to make money!

I think that was my problem. I looked that their examples and I think they were far too accepting.

Maybe I'll have my wife give it a try. She might be less demanding than I.
