SAHM here, just begun exploring work-from-home opportunities recently (after my husband lost his job), and lately delving deep into learning about mTurk. This looks like a really cool forum, thanks for being so open and welcoming!

Currently, I'm exploring all the different ways that one can earn money online, trying to get a good feel for what's out there, and also what I personally can do without losing my sanity. I have come to a realization lately:

It's super easy to make money online.
The hard part is making it pay more than pennies per hour. :p

Anyway, I'm curious if mTurk opportunities can actually give at least a minimum wage, and that's partly why I'm here. Not that I'd expect anyone to give me a straight answer. ...from what I gather, ALL online work venues are getting more workers than work, so the few (smart) workers left are tightening their grasp on their eggs. Quite understandably. Damn economy.

Hi and welcome to the forum and MTurk.

The amount you can make each day will depend hugely on where you live. US-based Turkers seems to be able to make a reasonable amount each week though I doubt that translates to a "living wage".

I am a SAHM, too, and have been trying to make some sort of living from the Internet since 2004. I am still trying. That doesn't mean everyone else will have the same level of (or lack of) success. I think, like everything in life, you get out what you put in. I need to do more of the latter!

Some people here make minimum wage or more. A lot make less. I'm one of the people that makes less. I am working my way up though! I do transcription work almost exclusively. I had no prior experience with it at all. Yesterday was my first day I've been able to make about 10 cents a minute...and that's because the audio I was working on paid a little bit more, I am getting faster at setting up, faster at typing, faster at editing/formatting.

Do I think you'll be able to sustain the income of working 40 hours a week at minimum wage? Maybe, eventually. Not right out of the gate, though. Work on getting your number of HITs approved high, keeping your approval percentage high, and watching carefully here while people put up links for good HITs.

No, most people aren't going to tell you who their favorite requesters are or give you their little black book, so to speak...but reading here will open you up to a lot of new HITs to try.

If you have any technical experience or degree, there are also other sites that facilitate work between parties.

    Welcome mythodea,

Good luck in your quest to make decent money online. I'm one struggling to do the same thing, and some days are better than others. The best thing you can do is keep reading the forum, and ask questions when you have them.

    Happy turking. :)

Mturk is good in that you can SOMETIMES make minimum wage. And there's lots of variety. Some of the work is fun.
You should probably look into supplementing your income writing for a company like Textbroker if you really, really NEED to make minimum wage (I do both...too much writing makes me want to stab myself in the eyes with a fork. lol. But the pay is more consistently around minimum wage writing for a reputable company.)
