I have earned a grand total of $1.60 and 6 pending HITs for an hour of work. At the same time, there are people who earn at least $20 daily. I read that I should do simple repetitive ones (3-5 cents) that take 30 seconds to do for maximum profit. Turns out that I earn about 60 cents per hour doing exactly that. I know for sure I'm either not doing something or doing something wrong, but what it is, I cannot say.
What is the problem here and how can I rectify it?

Trial and error is going to be the best way to learn JimbeII. I am sorry to say but there are many hits that are good for me that won't be good for you and probably vice versa. If you are doing a 3 cent hit that takes 30 seconds then you are only going to make $3.60 per hour at max. I usually aim for at least 15 cents per minute which equals out to be 7.50/hr and that is my low end. However, as time is money there is also a learning curve when it comes to mturk. There are hits I can do now in 30 seconds that used to take me much longer so don't get discouraged if you can't make good money at first. Consider it to be like piece rate... the longer you do something the quicker you will get at doing it. Good Luck and Happy Turking!

I hear ya dude. My problem is finding a gig I can churn out at a decent rate. Often I find myself in that $3.50-6/hr zone. Sucks.

Well first off I will say that for a 3-5 cent HIT, I look for about 15-20 seconds, not 30.

However even if you do 30 seconds, your math is wrong. If you do 3 cent hits in 30 seconds each, that's 6 cents per minute which is $3.60/hr. 5 cent hits at 30 seconds each is 10 cents per minute, $6.00/hr.

Yes, I'm new as well, but I'm learning which requesters to avoid. Some day's are better than others. So far my best day has been around $15. I just walk past the computer at different times of the day and work for a short time and by the end of the day it starts to add up. I did much better this month than last by almost 100%. Thanks Stlrfn... your my rock star.

Honestly if you aren't seeing much, don't just keep scouring the search for HITs that aren't there. I make it much easier on myself by only working when there is actually something good to do. I'm pretty much always around a computer, so I'll hit refresh (with the newest hits being shown first, of course), and scan the first 3 pages. If I see something worth doing, I do it. If I don't, then I go back to doing whatever else I was doing, which is usually something else online, chatting, whatever, then refresh turk again 10-15 minutes later to check again.

Yesterday, I earned 2.82 by the end of the day. Today I bumped it up to 3.35 following the advice. This works.

Hi JimbeII - you're going the right way! Make sure you do as many qualifications as you can to open up new HITs to you. I have ones I prefer over others and when they are available I can make $4-6 an hour depending on various factors out of my control. At the moment I aim to earn from $5 to $10 a day, but I am in Europe so HITs are somewhat limited compared to US workers.
