LOL GOOD LUCK WITH THAT The only thing I've seen Andy do is lockdown threads that start to expose his admin skills. I've contacted him about the guy posting in the public forum about committing outright fraud. I was giving it a week to get a reply but I'm starting to think my suspicions about Andy not giving a shit were right and that this forum deserves the reputation it has, no amount of my help will change that.
Seriously, this dude needs to be banned from this forum period. I've seen other forums where the user was banned for certain reasons. I hope they do that here.
The alternative is a draconian, lock-down approach like that other board has. Some are trolls, some take it seriously. This forum is free to read to anyone with an internet connection, and there are plenty of scammers and fraudsters and hooligans that I guarantee watch this board for a hint of a way to cheat the system. There needs to be some sort of moderation and obviously Andy is either too busy or doesn't care enough to do it himself. I'm not saying this needs to be an admin-happy power-trippy board, but somebody ought to be responsible for cleaning up this boards rep. Unless you guys like being known as the scammer forum. I certainly don't. I've tried contacting Andy and have received no answer as of yet -- keeping my cool on it though, seeing as how it was the last big holiday weekend of the summer. But I think we all know my patience is on the thin end of the spectrum.
I don't think that is the case at all. There's no reason there can't be a happy medium here, this definitely does not need to turn into another TN but there does need to be SOME sort of moderation going on here. People like this really need to be removed and banned and honestly I don't think there's anything wrong with needing to be a registered member of the forum before being able to read every little tidbit. I'd even support a laid-back noob system where you need to make something like 10 posts before getting access to everything. There's sure the hell no reason to have to spam up the board with 100+ posts before you're allowed to see anything but I think having the forum completely open to everyone is a bit ridiculous. Unless this forum becomes a bit less of 'scammer central' we'll never be seen as a 'respectable' Turking forum which means we'll never have DECENT requesters frequenting this place and helping out. Meh. Rambling.
Let Me Clarify! Please let me clarify... When I say "Agreed," what I meant was that there are better and more profitable uses of my time than complaining about this douche! I do feel some moderation would be extremely helpful for this Forum and could be done without being overly intrusive... But, who would volunteer? Who would work for free during their mTurk money making time??? Owning and running a forum, I'm sure, can be real WORK and extremely TIME CONSUMING... And to add on top of that the task of babysitting moderators due to potential disputes between moderators and users... Potential favoritism some volunteer moderators might show... Maybe Andy just doesn't have the time; or, maybe he's done it before and the babysitting was too much... In either or any case, this is not a productive use of my time! Which, just to clarify, was what I meant by statement, "Agreed."
There once was a mod here, a really, really nice mod who let a lot of things slide where on the other board, infractions and possibly bans might have happened, but she left

Gotta agree that we should simply ignore the trolls and scammers and get about our business. Threads devoted to scamming and those that devolve into hair-pulling do tend to get yanked, (we've all seen 'em disappear) so obviously Andy does weed the forums. He just doesn't do it obsessively and isn't at it every minute of the day and night. If there are people who try to take advantage of that, so what? Fuck 'em. Let's earn some money.
I agree - I dont want to see a "secret" section on the board. That requires more mystery to get access to than the Masters Qual on mturk.
No Touche needed. Just trying to help so you don't have to have them in your in box. I use a "two-tiered" board experience but it is completely backwards from TN. As long as you are a helpful participant you have full access. However, those that don't participate are restricted. That way the ones who share make money and the lurkers and trolls are excluded. I think it is a happy medium between the two forums I have seen so far.
But most people lurk on a board before they join it, and many lurk rather than post because they simply don't feel they have much to add to the conversation. I can see striking off people for trying to buy/sell fake SS#s and shit like that, but not because some moderator decides, possibly just because he/she is a petty tyrant, that you're not valuable enough to belong.
I'm not talking about a two-tiered anything. I'm not saying let's appoint 250 admins to patrol every word you say so we're all walking on eggshells anymore. I'm saying, I've seen Andy lock up threads in a heartbeat that start to make him personally look bad. But threads that make the mTurk community as a whole look bad -- and give new members the impression that even though they might get yelled at for it by honest workers, they can still get away with scamming -- stay up. So when someone searches Google for ways to scam the system, guess what pops up. This forum. And guess what requesters see when they come check out this forum (before they even sign up mind you -- and you wonder why only shitty requesters like crowdserver or w/e will post here). Ding ding ding! Posts requesting fake Social Security numbers. But it's whatever. You guys keep on with your black hat schemes and tell me how Turking is working out for you in a year or so. You'll be the same people wondering why you can't get any decent work. It's because you encourage this behavior. Good luck to you all, I'll be moving on.
To be fair, I've never seen any member here ever encourage this kind of misbehavior. But when some one does misbehave on an ethical, moral or legal level it should be reviewed IMHO. Back to work... "Gotta Make That Money!"
I understand that ohso, that is why we give people ample time to join in and have also permitted for those who do not turk all the time to "park" their account. No one loses their account because of lack of participation. They just lose access to as TN calls it "the good stuff". I am far from a tyrant but do want to have a give and take place for peeps to go instead of just those who take...take...take. I guess if people just want to take then another forum is just a better place for them. <3
