Everything I read, all the research I did, and I just think all I did was f*** myself.

I'm on SSI (not SSDI), I receive $730/month. I'm not happy about it, but it's what I get.

I've read on turk-related forums and other sites, and I've done everything they recommend. I just wanted to

    • *Earn* some income
    • Have a little tiny bit extra

So I reported turking as self-employment, even identifying the company and trying to explain my situation.

My understanding is that whatever I earned would be deducted from future benefits in this manner (Amount - $65) / 2). Why 65? I don't know, that's just what multiple sources said.

    • So if I earned $100, I would receive $730 - ((100 - 65) / 2) = $730 - 17.5.. = $712.50.
    • If I earned $200, $730 - ((200 - 65) / 2) = 730 - 67.50 = $662.50.

Eventually, with better quals, who knows...

Unfortunately I got a letter the other day that said they were reviewing my case, and today I got a letter that said they want me to bring in my pay stubs. And... I feel like I'm doomed. The most I've ever earned was $228 in a month.

I'll schedule an appointment this week and pray and hope and try to do better but I think I'm screwed. I thought I was doing things properly but I'm scared.

    Any advice, anyone, please?

I'm pretty sure you can work as long as it is under a certain amount...not sure how much

Also I would just say this is a hobby and that you still are un employed

Sorry I can't help you more. I know a couple of the people I drink with get SSI but beyond that I don't know much

I'm in the middle of trying to get SSDI for my husband. First application was denied/declined. We got a lawyer and are appealing the decision.

We're in Georgia; I'm not sure if it matters what state we're in. And I don't know all of the nuances of SSI versus SSDI.

But we asked the lawyer specifically about turking, as well as some other potential income sources my husband has (basically doing his old job but on a temporary basis, filling in for other people who are out sick or on vacation).

I am not sure how this information might apply to you, but our lawyer said that any income under $1000 a month probably wouldn't affect the outcome of the appeal either way and that his benefits wouldn't be reduced as a result.

I hope somebody who knows about SSI will come along, but I thought I'd tell you what I know in case that helps. It is hard for me to imagine a scenario in which you lose your benefits because you were turking, but if you have a case worker or something, you might want to ask that person. Or perhaps consult a legal aid group and get some free legal advice.

It's a little too late for my advice, given that you've already told them about your income. But Amazon won't report earning over $600. Had you not told SSI, you could have stayed under $600 earnings (for the year) and not told them.

    Thanks for the advice everyone.

I've been straight and honest with them thus far. I'll be straight and honest with them when I see them this week and hope that they work with me.

It could be as simple as one SSI worker was confused so he raised an inquiry.

I'm on SSDI, due to permanent leg injury. Per SSA.gov, you are allowed to make up to $10,000 per YEAR, before you have to worry about reporting anything. I have been earning $700 average per month for the past three years, so you should be OK.
