It's titled "Speech perception psychology experiment II: $3.00 including bonus" but nowhere do they tell you how they determine the bonus, and the base pay is only a quarter. Still, half an hour for three bucks, even if it's an iffy three bucks, isn't bad on MTurk, so I took it only to discover that the final page of the experiment has no submit button. There is no possible way to submit the hit and get even the measly quarter that they'd promised, let alone the bonus.

Other people who took it are having the same problem, and having to return the hit after having done the work, so if it pops back up... and it will... you might want to let this one slide.

I emailed the requester, but to no avail so far.

Emailing the requester was the right thing to do. Even if they don't respond to you by email, they will probably try like the dickens to fix the bug.

Unless they never intended the hit to have a submission button and were just out to get their experiment completed for free. Which we all know happens on there from time to time.

I did this hit earlier, sometime this morning! I was able to submit it.

When I did this hit earlier, it said that if you got past the first part of the task you would then qualify, based on your answers correct with the right sounds, for the 3.00 bonus. If you didn't get passed the first part, the study would be over and you would just be compensated the .25.

Just looked and it is still pending approval, but I was able to submit this hit!

I got an email from him saying he'll pay me even though the data from doing the hit was lost to him, and this:

    > My appologies. I set the HIT to require a response to the audio
    > equipment question, and it looks like there's a bug because many
    > people are having problems with it. There was supposed to be a
    > drop-down menu; I take it it wasn't there? If you don't mind, can you
    > tell me what kind of computer/browser you're using?

So it sounds as if the few people who (like jaroba07) have managed to submit the thing just lucked out and happened to be using a browser it worked in. At least we know it's a programming error and not a deliberate scam, and they're safe to work for.

But I still think it makes sense for people to hold off on doing it until they say the bug is fixed.

I agree. Also, I was coming back here because I remembered at the end, when it was time to submit, it took about 2 minutes before the big green submit button appeared.

I'm glad he got back to you and is going to pay you for the hit.

This has got to be the most annoying, brain draining, sleep inducing HIT I have EVER done LOL

I did have a submit button but like others the drop down box did not work for me. I clicked it but it wouldn't drop down so I just noted to him that it wasn't working. Fingers crossed.

Okay, now I don't know what to think. Neither a drop-down nor a submit appeared for me, not even after several minutes of frustrated waiting, and I'm using Firefox, too. Are you using Windows 7, Jaroba07?

I did one even more annoying and brain draining than this last night, and that one, which was supposed to require only 70 minutes, took me two and half hours. It was ten bucks, or will be if she ever pays, but if I'd known what it was going to be like, I'd have passed.

In total agreement that it was mind numbing to get through that hit!!!

Maybe it was the Inquisit plug in acting up, then? I don't know. I give up.

I often think that the only way to make money on MTurk is to be a requester, but the coding of hits looks so daunting that I can't imagine myself ever following through on an turking-based business idea, no matter what it is.

Same here, woke up to my bonus this morning so YAY. Also got a very quick response from him when I sent a note to let him know I had issues with the drop down box not working.
