I said this yesterday. Normally the sun will cause you to squint within 1-2 seconds and look away after a few more if you try to look directly into it. You won't go blind doing it it's just to bright to stare at for a long time. The eclipse is different because you can stare at it for much longer without having to squint and look away. So if you stare at it for a full min I am pretty sure you'll do some damage.
